HID Upgrade Results
This is not my first time tampering with my headlights, so I normally preach on about retro-fitting to upgrade to H.I.D. lighting. However, I've seen questionably good results without a retro-fit with reputable companies such as TYC. So here I've gone out on a limb, and put TYC to the test.
The car is a 2000 Accord coupe. The housings are TYC black housing projectors. The H.I.D.s are a no-name kit with H1 bulbs in a 6000Kelvin color temp. This is the lowest I could find while trying to reach the 4200-4300K of OEM bulbs.
The halogen projectors in these TYC housings have great output with halogen bulbs, and even better output with Sylvania Silverstars, so I figured I'd try to 1-up once more. I'll let you be the judge of whether this was worth the $110 for a knock-off H.I.D kit. I believe the results speak for themselves...

The H.I.D kit was purchased from 'japanimportparts' on eBay. $92, with expensive *** shipping, $40, and $18 extra to have them overnighted to me so I can begin my cross-country road trip today.

Don't have any head-on pics yet, but I'll get some when I settle in tonight. They're crystal white if you're in the 'beam', the projectors have a very nice color from the cut-off shield, for a bright purpleish blue, and they look extremely clean and white above the cutoff. No glare whatsoever. That's the point of having the sharp cut-off afterall... No flashes or complaints from other drivers. Since the headlights are so low to begin with, I aimed them with 1/4" drop for ever two feet of distance. Basically 2.5 inches lower than headlight level at 20 feet, and 5" lower at 40 feet. This gave me the furthest coverage of light, without blinding others.
Keep in mind that some of those pics are with me sitting up-hill to give a better example of the cutoff.
This picture was taken on a flat road, and is what I normally see while driving.

hey, did you get another accord? i still remember the old one
no comment on the picture of hight, i know how to make a 194 blub looks like an atomic bomb blast with a 40 years old camera as well as photoshop
i guess the better question would be how do you like it, did it change the glare cut off at all?

Yeah yeah lol. I can make a picture of cow crap look like a chrome-plated ferrari myself. Actually, I didn't touch these pictures at all. They were shot in manual mode to get the most true representation of the light, and then resized to 25% in photoshop. Not a single other thing was done.
Yes i did get a new car. Here's the only pics i have of it for now...

if you do the HID retrofit like the Op did, what has to be done to the TYc housing? anything other than "plug and play"? also, do you maintain halgon bulbs for your high beams if you do a HID retrofit?
That looks GREAT!! I've been contemplating this for a long time and was really worried about spending the money on this, but as I can see in your pix it is WELL worth it. Thanks AfAccord
Im with iam7head on the pictures. After owning HID's I can really say those pictures are very misleading. You may have set it to "manual mode" for the truest pic but there's no way in hell that its just sudden darkness like that anywhere outside.
The TYC's have always gotten good reviews as far as HID plug and play. I would just suggest getting a better brand HID kit. Ive gone cheapo and learned the hardway.
Ive had HIDs in stock housings and now im on a retrofit. Truthfully the retro is disappoiting as far as lighting up the road. All you really get is a pretty" cutoff.

Nice post, AFAccord.
I guess I'll have to give the TYCs some more credit from now on. Not much more, but at least it's a start.
The pictures themselves look as if the ISO was turned down as low as possible in order to expose the amount of lighting that HIDs provide, hence the heavy contrast between light, and dark.

maybe the iso was messed with, since he did state they were taken in "manual" mode. but if the iso was turned all the way down the areas that the headlights hit would be compleatly white washed. I think the point of this post is to state whether people agree with his project, not whether the op "doctored" his pictures. I say
on a job well dont to the OP keep the good work and cool ideas coming.
