B-serise guys. how much power are you pushing on your stock axles?
I ran stock axles for 3 yrs. on 650 whp. Never had a problem untill Vegas. Great track!! Broke 2 in a row.

In that 3 years, how many passes did you make at 650whp?

i made 647hp for a full season, and only broke 2 (FWIW, this was after i tried solid mounts in the car, smart idea lol) when i had the stock mounts in the car, it took it fine tho... for over 35 runs or so, 2 axles aint bad lol.. could have been avoided without the addition of those mounts perhaps, who knows.. Car ran low 10's all day

I have run the same set of axles for 4 seasons I think. Actually I take that back, I replaced one when I ripped a CV boot.
1 year at ~350 whp
1 year at ~450 whp
2 years at ~540 whp
In those years I probably made well over 250 passes. An average T/T day was from 8-12 passes.

Now ask how many people have broken them. You always get a few that tell their success strories on stock parts, but the majority break them, that's why aftermarket parts were developed.
I have seen a few people make mid-low 10s passes on them, but they are also breaking them at once everytime they go to the track.

Yeah stock axles can hold a good amount of power, but the whole point is for them to handle the abuse and not break. Sure people have made lots of power on them, but that means nothing if you don't have the peace of mind to know that they're not gonna snap during a race.

i just cant belive you guys.

..oem honda axels are strong for what they are, they def. can take a beating but only for so long. the use of a LSD helps make them last a little longer too by evenly distributing the power.
but like Tony said, when you make big power, theres a reason why they sell aftermarket. .....and there's nothing like a nice set of DSS stage 5 or the big dog stage 6 axels.
...jus my 2cents

if yer building your car on a budget, and lookin to maybe mess around at the track randomly, id say its ok to use your stockies until you can upgrade.. If you want to actually be competitve at sanctioned races, then we shouldnt even be having this discussion lol

IT DOESNT matter. I have heard of people snapping a set of 1000.00 axles. Im sticking with stock OEM axles for a little while.
ANYWAYS, my personal experience...I know a dude down on Atlanta, GA that runs 9.90 @ 150+ on STOCK OEM axles. He was making 795whp to be EXACT!
Hope that helped...

Only on HT can you build a reliable consistent low 10 sec. car with stock sleeves, stock axles, gsr cams, stock bore, and pump gas....
Ive snapped an stock axle with a stock b16 bangin 2nd gear at etown, So who knows Lol ,But i havent snaped one with boost go figure

thats takin it a lil extreme Tony. nobody said it was reliable.. But if you want to get technical, ive seen (and owned a few) stock bore stock axled, stock cam'ed 10 second cars.. None are reliable with stock axles, and none are on pump.. Especially not stock sleeves, because theres no need for all that.. But dont say it cant be done.. Back in the day, when parts werent as easy to get to, and some of us were younger and broker (lol), budget cars were the only way we'd be able to race

Damn Tony,
Don't you wish you knew that before you spent all that money!
You could be running like 6's by now if only you had saved some of that money for body kits, side markers, and fuzzy dice!
My stock weedeater makes 95hp runs on water and has lasted 10yrs so far without breaking the spring shaft!

Whats that supposed to mean??? What I said was true and I believe he only snapped like 1 or 2 sets of STOCK axles at 795whp. His name is Peter and he is from GA. Great dude. STOCK OEM axles from AutoZone.
Thats what Ill be running for a little while because I have a few sets for backup then I will purchase a setof Gator axles.

So a 795whp car only breaks 2 axles, out of how many passes? A car with that power should run a 9 sec. pass every time, how many 9's has he run?
All i'm getting at is a lot of these cars don't see much track time.
Bottom line, it can be done, but they WILL break. How long will they last? Who knows, but you can bet your *** you're going to bring spares with you to the track!

well i dont know about Mr Georgia, but if your going to spend the money on a reliable 800hp setup, then you should have good axles in yer car. you will NOT make rounds with pep boys axles.. You CAN run mid 10's with a daily driven streetcar with stock axles, but as i stated above, thats NOT going to be competitve. Its NOT reliable, but its DOABLE. We are kind of compariing aples and oranges.. I can go put 26x9's on my 1000hp streetcar with stock axles.. I can go see how long they last.. They might last 5 passes , or they might break during the burnout, but the point is they wont last long so why use them (unless as i said, yer just lookin to race the car every now and then)

He ran a FULL season and didnt break a single axle. MAYBE 1! He raced EVERY weekend. Ive seen more posts about people asking "WHY DID MY STG 5 DSS AXLES BREAK" ... then.."I cant believe my 80 dollar OEM axles broke." LMAO!
Maybe its just the way you drive...o well...other people drive. ME personally I TRIED breaking my OEMAutoZone axles and I couldnt last season and I was making approx. 550-600whp... Who knows?!?!
