Default My manifold finally installed.

Completed pics on post 7 (minus dumptube)

Dumptube pics on top of second page.

Well I wasnt going to post until the downpipe was done but I got anxious. These are pics from today, of my manifold, that a friend and I made. BTW here is the post about the manifold itself. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1791385

Manifold only:

btw that plastic bag is so that nothing gets into the dip stick tube.

New turbo on mani:

Wastegate and oil lines on:

We're going to fab up a 3" DP tomorrow and will post pics when it's done. BTW if you are wondering about an intake, I'm putting a foam, mushroom style filter straight on the turbo. I'm happy with the outcome and I think I'm going to like it a lot better than the Drag mani, shitty Drag DP and the 57trim I had.

Looks solid man, careful with those foam filter though. Also, a little easier way to cap the dipstick tube while you work is to jsut drop a clean bolt in it with a head that won't let it fall in of course.

That's a good idea. Just curious....what's so bad about the foam filters? Are they brittle or would they possibly suck in? I just need something that's going to fit in the space provided and that cone filter I have isnt going to cut it.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Ya, every now and then you see one colapse. There are so many different size K&Ns, you might be able to find one that would work. check out their site then see if summit stocks it if you are in a rush.

Finally this bitch is done lol. We fabbed the DP up today and ran into a few fitment issues and had to do tons of measuring and cutting and such. That **** sucks when you do it laying in a gravel driveway with the welder drug out into the open. Anyway here are some pics of today's work.

Me welding the flex on:

Sean welding a the piece after the flex:

I thought this was a cool pic I took of Sean welding:

After a long day of bullshit....the downpipe:

The car complete

I would have taken more pics but my camera is screwed up and everytime you shut if off, you cant take anymore pics until you delete the ones that are on it. So everytime I took new pics Id have to come in and upload them. I did that about 5 times and that was enough.

Anyway the car fired right up with ZERO leaks of anykind. We let the car warm up for about 10min and checked out everything and the only thing that was smoking was the exhaust wrap. I took it out for a spin and holy ****.......The car feels SO much better now. As you know I was running a drag manifold, 57 trim and the garbage 2.5" drag downpipe. I honestly expected the turbo not to spool THAT much faster since we did lots of porting and modifying of the manifold after we welded it and the runners have a larger ID than the drag, even though it is a 50 trim now vs the 57 trim. Response is night and day. The car feels like it wants to go much more so than it did. I got on it once and it actually feels faster now, with my friend riding, than it did 3 days ago when I was by myself at the same boost level. Im very happy with the outcome. The only problem after startup was blowing a charge pipe off but that's an easy fix. Where there it is folks.....My first manifold and downpipe. Much thanks to Sean for being there every step of the way and helping out. Also thanks to BMC, Ace Stainless and Kteller for materials.

Look at them welding skills...what you know about that?

It was a long day of cutting, grinding, crawling in the gravel, and getting burns from spatter falling on my neck, but it was worth every bit of it. Me and drew have both had various turbo setups on different cars. But i have to say that im more proud of this one that any other(even if it isnt my car). This is the first one that was made 100% by us and i believe that it turned out great. Especially since it was done in the gravel with a mig welder and limited tools and resources. Theres alot of pride inolved with doing something like this and seeing great results And DAMN that 50trim responds amazingy fast compared to the old 57trim. This was an awesome learning experience...and thats what its all about IMO!

Yea me and drew took welding classes at a community college as well. I think thats the best way to learn...especialy if you have good teachers. Alot of people have taught themselves how to weld and are really good. But is so much easier learning from someone wih a ton of experience

Good idea. The TT kit is mild steel.
I just made the same exact purchase. Hopefully, my manifold will come out as nicely as yours.

Well this is mild steel as well. It's bead blasted in the manifold post so it looks all nice and clean. I did that before I painted it. The paint is still holding up well after a few days. It's a little chalkier than it was but it doesnt look like it's going to flake off and hopefully it'll do it's just of preventing rust.

Well I ground the welds down on the runners to make sure there were no pin holes and to make sure everything was flush with no undercut. But it came out looking nice. You can sorta see where I took the grinder to it because it's not a perfect radius....it's flat spotted all the way around lol. Yea I like the "mid mount" name. That's what Im going to call it now

Looks great

Are you going to fab up a dumptube so you aren't dumping right into the open bay?

Thanks. And yes I'm in the process. I was going to modify the dumptube that came with the drag kit but I ran into a problem. I took it to work to bead blast the rust off of it but before I did, I decided to take the calipers and see what the inside diamater was. Well at the flange it was 35.2mm and at the end of the tube it was 35.7mm. I'm running a 38mm WG so that's going to be a restriction. I ended up ordering a 1 5/8" J bend from summit. It's a 16guage piece, which is 1/16" thick so that would make the ID of the piping exactly 1.5" or 38mm. Im getting a new flange from my friend who has a few laying around. I'm going to make it run beside the DP and dump right under the oil pan. I will cut an angle to make it dump away from the pan and more towards the ground. It's hard to explain but I'll post pics when Im done. Hopefully I'll get the piping early this comming week.

Oh yea...I'm suprised nobody has asked where my fan is. Anyway it's a 12" push/pull fan that I picked up from Pep Boys. Works good and opened up as much as 5 or so inches in certain areas.

This filter is reinforced on the inside just like it is on the outside. It would actually be hard to physically pull the filter material through that. I did some research on them and my friend also told me he's heard of the foam filters sucking in....but only the ones that dont have anything on the inside. The "grill" that's on the outside of the filter is identical to the one that's on the inside so the filter material is sandwiched in there. Thanks for the compliment though!
