Battery or Alternator?
Today driving home for work coming to a red light...the 91 ED(Z6) died on me while rolling and the battery light came up. I restarted the car and it worked so I drove it for another block and it died on me rolling again with the battery light on. I took the car to Advanced Auto Parts because I bought the battery there and the guys told me to start my car and he listened to the motor. He said right away it's your alternater I can hear the bearings in it. So my question is, is it the Alternater or Battery.
alternator either the belt is too loose or you have a fried alternator. check the tension on the belt also. on your owners manual if you have it states that the battery light means either the belt is kinda loose or its the alternator.
word of advise get a helms manual and do it yourself cause shops like to charge alot for that work

Well I can't get the alternator out the engine. I took of the backets but the M/C is in the way when I try to pull it out from the top and the axles are in the way with the fram if I try to pull it from the bottom. How the hell are you suppose to take it out. Sorry for the tech questions.
if it were me, i would remove the axle.. you dont have to drain the trans unless you remove the passenger one.. i would drop the alt from the bottm cause thats where its closest to anyways. i looked in the crx service manual, and it just tells you how to remove it from the engine, but not get it out from the bay.
if you want the manual, check my sig for the link.

Jack up the drivers side front wheel. In doing so you will lower the axle out of your way and remove it from the bottom.
Took me an hour to figure this out on my own. Wish I had H-T then...

Damn, I just tried that.....jacked up the right side and it's still in the way....I wish I would of thought about this 1st before putting in the motor. I'm gonna stop for a bit and let the frustrationg kools off. damn engine and M/C in the way and damn frame and axle in the way.
Ok guys! The only way that I took out the alternator was by removing the complete P/B (power brake booster). This is for people with z6's in 91 hatchs.
Before you pulled it all apart did you do an alternator output test? Normally the guys at advanced autos arent mechanics, and I dont know about your ares, but the ones around here dont know much at all. I would of made sure the alternator was bad first. If he heard bearing noise it could also of been your belt tensioner.
Well car works fine now. Drove it most of the day and no problems. The tested it also at the store and it was bad. Thanks for the info guys!
Damn cuz I need to replace my alternator also since it makes this humming noise. I did try from below and above but nothing seems to work like what everybody says (I tried about an hour and it got dark so I just bolt the same one). As I remember, I did remove it once from above and my friend with the B16 also removed it from above without disconnecting the VB or the MC. I guess I need to remove the axel since I did it many time but I’ll give it another try from above.
