Default Lowering Idle

I know what many of you will ask but is there any way to lower the engine idle speed of the ES1 5-speed? I think I would need a reflashed or reprogrammed ECU but just wondering? My main reason is to try and get a slightly better fuel economy, Especially when the winter makes the car idle at 1300RPM until it is at operating temp. Then it drops to 600RPM. I just want it to start and automatically run at 600 instead of 1300. Thats IT.

Thanks.

Please don't post any crude remarks. Thanks its greatly appreciated.

BTW I did search, nothing for 2001-2005 Civic

There is a reason it idles at a higher speed on a cold start... leave it like it is... If you tried to start it and leav it at a lower idle, it would die out, and if you could keep it running, it would brun way rich until warm up.

Kind of like a cold start on a carbuerated car... The carb has a choke hold in, and pull off valves/solenoids that bring the idle down with engine temp...

Just leave it like it is... You will not see any benifits from lowering it.

You just made a great argument for leaving it like it is.

Thanks for the serious answers I APPRECIATE IT.

And yes thanks for pointing out the reason in my original statement. LOL

Just wanted to know if it was possible.

It is, but you wouldn't need, or want to for that matter. It is possible to damage the engine doing it enough due to lack of fuel for operating temprature at the time.

Doesn't an engine consume more fuel when cold then when warmed up? If so I would think you would want the engine to warm up as fast as possible.

believe me, in terms of emissions, your car wants to reach normal operating temperature as quickly as possible. it runs open loop until the o2 sensors get up to their operational temperature range then drops the idle and goes into closed loop.

I know how the cooling system works. I also know that the Cat only works well if warm which is why I assume it is in the manifold for the LX. But I simply thought since the engine is reving at 1300RPM and the combustion temps are close to 2000 degrees F it would heat up rather quickly. But I'm only 18 and have a very limited knowledge of thermodynamics and engineering. Thanks again for clearing all this up I find it interesting to know more every day.
