slightly off topic-but i work at a motorsports oriented subaru dealer here in NY and we get a kick out of watching you legacy guys run those things 10/10ths

 

you may have read it in the release, but teams who use Konis will be eligible for a $10k payout in 07 and 08. And all teams will be required to use Konis in 09.

I think its a great sponsorship, Im just not crazy about the name of the series. Grand-Am had a nice ring. Koni Challenge just sounds so ordinary.

At the time I posted GA did have anything up. But now I see it, thanks. I agree, "Koni Cup" would have had a better ring.

actually it used to be Motorolla Cup.

 

You're correct. And then the Frances purchased it and brought it to the U.S. Like I said, it will always be Grand-Am Cup.

 

maybe it should be "Grand-Am cup, suspended by Koni"

 

Hey all. Back from SEMA and didn't have H-T access during the event.

Big news for sure. The name change was mandated and anything with "Cup" was simply not an option. We liked "Koni Cup" too but the France family owns Grand Am and Nextel Cup and they wanted only one named "Cup"...guess which one. That is perfectly fine, we are very happy to be involved and "Koni Challenge" sounds good to us and will become the norm over time for everyone I expect. Hopefully it will roll of the tongue easily as did Motorola Cup and Grand Am Cup, just takes a bit of transition time.

The Grand Am folks have been absolutely top notch to work with as the program went from first thoughts, contract and program development, to the press conference at SEMA. I think when the whole package including the contingencies and payouts unfolds, there are going to be some pretty happy racers. We have a big task ahead of us in the next months and years but it is an exciting time and we are all looking forward to it.

After it was Firehawk Endurance.....I think it was Escort something before that.
