right front axle
I have a 97 Honda Accord EX V6 and my right front CV boot is broken, Honda service says I need to replace the axle. I searched for one on some auto parts sites but there seem to be different types, How do I know which is the right one?
second they found some corrosion on the muffler, they want to charge me 350 to replace the muffler, i found a local muffler shop that will do it for 100 with 2 year warranty. does going with a non honda muffler make any difference?
third they said a i need a new oil pan gasket and quoted me 250 just for the labor. how long should it reasonably take? thanks

Any major parts store should be able to get you a reman'd axle for cheap, and given a little bit of info, they'll probably even tell you exactly what part number you want.
Go with the local muffler shop... if they do deccent work that is. A muffler is a muffler... as far as daily drivers and whatnot go.
Pan gaskets can be a pain in the ***... but 250 in labor seems a bit steep to me, but then again I have no idea what labor rates are around your area. It's a pretty straight forward thing to change, take it to a techschool and let someone learn on it... unless they're a huge fuckup they should be able to get it done, and you'll safe a few bucks.

That's just the nature of the beast. Is it rusted enough to be loud? Are any of the support hangers ready to come apart? Unless he was more specific, I'd wait until it starts making noise. Just be aware that you're gonna need one sometime. Maybe 6 months from now or maybe longer.
I recall honda mufflers are lifetime warranty if you buy it from the dealer.. I know, I just replaced one a few weeks ago. Same goes for the b pipe. The just don't warranty the spring bolts and gaskets..
As for the axle, if you have ABS, I'd be a little worried about putting in an aftermarket axle. I can't tell you how many times I've seen problems with aftermarket axles causing abs problems. The rings are always off a bit causing all sorts of headaches..
Then there's a oil pan gasket, like said before, it's pretty straightforward. Much easier if you've got it up on the hoist than on jack stands.. And 250 for labor is just about right..
