Why the Fit over the Civic? ...
Hey guys, glad to have found this forum!
My 2004 Civic DX Auto is going to be turned in next month when its lease is up. I am really interested in buying a new Fit Sport Auto (wife doesn't drive a manual tranny).
It certainly seems that over the last 15 years the Accord has moved upscale in the market, the Civic has moved up to where the Accord was maybe 10-15 years ago, and the Fit was introduced to be in the market where the Civic once was.
This will be a second car, used 90% of the time for one person commutes to work. My main interests are gas mileage and reliability.
The Fit and Civic seem very close in price and gas mileage. Here's my big question, why should I get the Fit over the Civic? The versatility of the Fit's interior does seem like a big plus.
All insights and advice much appreciated, thanks in advance!

I would drive the both and compare for yourself, but for me at least:
1 - Its a hatchback. I needed something to fit a decent sized dog-cage in.
2- Its cheaper.
3- The 2 tier dash on the Civic makes me want to barf.

If you have needs for putting a wide range of things in your car, big to small, go with the Fit.
If you want ~38 mpg on the freeway and only spend 18-20 bucks a tank, buy the Fit. I commute ~120 miles a day, helps out a lot on the wallet
If you want to be able to say, I have a sub-compact with 8 airbags, go with the Fit.
If you want to live in your car, go with the Fit. I've done it, fold the rear seats flat and voila! a bed.
If you want a more affordable, well balanced well equiped car with 90% of the utility as an SUV, get a Fit.
Don't get me wrong, the Civics are very nice, but they are ~$3000 more than a Fit and have less versitility
