First oil change
Our Fit (Manual Sport) finally had the oil change come due at ~9,300km. That got me woundering, how long was it for you guys and gals before your first oil change came due (when your oil indicator hit 15%)?

Changed mine at 3000 with Castrol Syntec 5w20 from here on out it will be 5500mi but the first needs to get changed early due to break in shavings in the oil. Honda will tell u different but Ive been a technician for along time and have never heard of running ur first oil change to 5500mi.
There is a reason to wait until the maintenance minder tells you; the first oil has an additive needed by the engine (malibdinum?) that helps inish off smoothing out the cylinders, if I remember right. Regardless, you should wait for the 15% mark.
To reset the oil bring up the oil life left on the display and then press and hold the button in (like when you reset your trip meter).

Shavings in the oil??? Thats why you have a filter. Unless you are worried about sub 5-micron metal shavings. Plenty of technicians have their way to do things, but somehow, I believe that Honda engineers know more about the engine they designed than you. I could be wrong, but I think not.
There is molybdenum in the oil your car was filled with at the factory, and your owners manual tells you to NOT change it early. The additional moly in the oil helps break the engine in correctly.
There is a great article over on TOV that everyone should read, it doesn't mention oil changes and whatnot, but it has a lot of insights about the L15A engine in our cars. http://asia.vtec.net/Series/FitJazz/lseries/
4800miles on my Fit, still at 40%. I'll be using Castrol 5w20 synthetic and an OE filter.
