My New Bandsaw, I think its big enough!!
My coldsaw didnt literally didnt cut it, for some of the heavy steel I was cutting so I was in the market for a bandsaw. I came across a marvel 15a fully automatic 15 x 20 with a 1 1/4" blade. Im picking it up this week Ill let you know how I like it. I attached a picture for some viewing pleasure.

its a 1968. its used but you can still get parts from marvel since they still make it, going rate for a new one is $59,500. It needs a little tlc paint and clean up making some auto feed stuff replaced but I shouldnt have more $1500 in to including buying it. The last time I looked at similar bandsaws with out autofeed were going between 6-15k. The 5hp motor is more than enough power with 2hp hydraulic motor and 1/2 hp coolant pump. it should pay for itself in first few months not paying for saw charges from the steel mill
it weights about 7000lbs with the infeed and outfeed. I got 3k & 5k lb fork lift. so me and buddy are driving down with our 4ton and 5ton trailers to load it up since the seller has a fork lift on site. hopefully the bandsaw its self doesnt weigh more than 5000 lbs I think the in feed table has to weight atleast 2000+ its beast and has 2 hydraulic cylinder in it

beat me to it
beat me to it
I bought it for the autofeed, not cause of the size. Steel mill imo is getting way to much money to cut my stock to size $1-2 per cut. I just moved to a bigger building so I have the space for it. just bundle the metal together and it will cut multiple pieces of stock at the same time, reducing the time to per piece to cut since indexinig the material is the longest part of the cycle.
The second reason I bought it was ive been bidding on a military aircraft parts contract and if I get it I need to be able to process the material in house. If i do get it wait to you see what I buy next hopefully it will be a machining center with a pallet changer

I might sell the coldsaw, depending how I like bandsaw, but the coldsaw is setup for aluminum and bandsaw will be steel so both will have their purpose but the coldsaw is only semi automatic which means some one has to man to feed the stock forward. it might be worth the time to swap blades on the bandsaw for a big aluminum run

Remember that one picture where the men are standing inside the cylinders, yeah he is making manifolds out of sch10 for thoughs....

you got me I building turbo manifold for cruise ships now out of 15" schedule 40
just wait till I post pics of the collectors they are only 6 ft tall

I paid $1100 for it, I assuming I need to replace some parts on it I should have to invest another 300-500 in it including 30 gallons of hydraulic fluid and 20 gallons of coolant along with some new autofeeder parts and new blades which can range from $30 on ebay to $400 for a carbide one from grainger
she might not be the prettiest girl at camp but she will make & save me tens of thousands of dollar. I find it amazing that a machine from 1968 it still cutting like the day it came off the assembly line. They dont make them like they used to I got some other old equipment and its built like a brick **** house. Seriously does a two spindle drill press really need to weigh over 3000lbs no but its 30+ years old and runs like a champ since I rebuilt it with new bearings and belts and with a 1.5 and 2hp motor.
You cant go to sears and get a drill press with more than a 1/2 hp motor. its nice to be able to put a 1/2 tap in 1/2 steel and she wont skip a beat or think of quiting. I got a love for old american made machinery.
but when it comes to production cnc equipment you can beat some of the imports from japan. My mori seikis are great and hold super tight tolerances for being 15 years old and run like new it does help they ran plastic @ 3m for 12 years and were maintained quite well.
now if I can just find a machining center for a good price
