Insurance?
I live in Washington, and the law doesn't require you to have insurance on a motorcycle. If you financed a motorcycle, would you have to get insurance anyways, (even though the law doesn't require you to)? I know it will protect the lender if something was to go wrong, but is there anyway around not having to get insurance? I dont want to get myself into something that i cant afford. I went and got a quote from geico, and they wanted 597 a month with a clean record and everything.

Then don't get a motorcycle. Especially a new one. From the way you sound i assume this is your first bike. It's a pretty bad idea to finance your first bike. You don't even know if riding is for you yet. Also, everybody crashes, not just because they're new. What's gonna happen when you wreck your brand new bike sans insurance? Just gonna keep making payments on something you don't own?
If you're going to get a bike, buy used. Save up some money. THEN you can not buy insurance.
I recommend getting full coverage no matter what you do. There are insurance companies out there that have lower rates than geico.

Or worse, the bike is stolen.

So, you dont want to get insurance for your bike because you dont want to get something you cant afford? But, you want to finance a brand new bike?
Seriously, reread what you just posted and tell me you dont think that you just make one of the top 5 stupidest comments ever to be posted in the motorcycle forum. I mean seriously, look at that crap.

StateFarm gave me a low rate too...if i transfered over three vehicles, home, and life insurance. Then they found out i had a ticket for 10 over from nearly 3 years before and my rates sky rocketed. They told me once the ticket went off my record in four weeks my rates would drop back down to like 440 a year for full coverage. I ended up getting another 10 over ticket the week before, making statefarm unobtainable.
The moral of the story is, StateFarm is cheap is you have a clean-ish driving record and continue not to mess up. But from all my experiences with them, as soon as you make a claim your rates go through the roof.

Regardless of financing, insurance requirement or anything else, you should absolutely get liablility insurance on your motorcycle. IF you happen to cause an accident or maim or kill someone with your bike, you will have no protection against litigation. They will try to sue you, and if they win, there will be a judgement against you. Let's just say you have no assets with which to pay their medical bills, then you would be really screwing them...basically, you hurt someone, have no way to pay for it, then either the victim or taxpayers have to pay....that's not too cool.
Anyway, hope you get it figured out....and remember to shop around for the best rates !

thats just liability though. wait til you add something like comprehensive or collision. your number will be about 5x higher

Im 18, have one 15 over and one red light ticket, and liability through state farm is 38 a month, full coverage would be about 1400 a year which I think is pretty good for my record and age
