I know that the first V6 that they made for the accord was smaller displacement, but I think the rest of the car it was packaged in was also a little smaller, so I don't know what the performance stats are on that engine... But the 6th gen engine was bigger and also pulled a little more car along... I was just wondering which would come out ahead in straight acceleration, and also fuel economy... anyone compared them side by side??
C ceries V6 used in the 95-97 accords is rated at 170hp and is a cast iron head and block design.
J30a series used in the 98-02 accords is rated at 200hp and is a aluminum head and block.
in straight out accelleration the newer accords win hands down, it isn't even close (the car is only 23lbs heavier and has 30 hp more) the lightest accord LX V6 can get to 60 in about 7.5 sec and through the quarter in about 15.8 versus 9 and 17 respectively for the 95-97 cars
a 1995 accord LX V6 sedan came in at 3218 and the 98 LX V6 sedan came in at 3241.
I had a 98 coupe and got an average of 25 around town in with the V6 and 34 on the HWY. I cannot say what a 5th gen v6 would get but I would imagine it isn't too far off from that.....
reliability wise both engines can easily go 400K+ but the trans in the 98-02 accords rarely makes it past 100K without having to be replaced at least 1 time and I have yet to hear of someome making it past 200K with one on the original trans.

the old v6 is ancient history, it's from the first gen legend dated 87ish, i have a 89 and it's a headache with all the vaccum and stuffs.
they bump up the displacement a tad and shove it in the new accord

are the honda V6's and acura v6's interchangeable between chassis?
for instance will the newer Honda/Acura V6's fit into 95-97 Accord V6?

In some cases, yes, they are somewhat interchangeable. In the case that you mentioned, no, they are not.

wanted to add an update this old thread.96 accord 2.7 auto 250k on original trans and motor still no problems. If you drive it like a kid with neutral drops and constant red line I am sure it is a different story.
