Default twin fire VS msd 6a

well just posting this to see what people have experinced with theese.

i bought my first twin-fire put it in the car with the looper, car reved nicly pluged in the cdi & it cut out at high rpm, so i got a second twin-fire & the same thing.

so i just got ride of the twin-fire & traded in for a msd-6a, just finished the install drove the car reved right out with not cut-out exept for a little poping because its not tuned for it yet.
go figure that a 140$ ignition would work better then a 240$ cdi. one month of a big headach & the solution actually saved me 100$ go figure

you probably had the jumpers wrong, firing on the wrong edge will throw your timing off about 15-25 degrees.

when those twin fire ign boxes break, they completly break.. they dont usually 1/2 work

becides that.. the twin fire is not even comparable to the 6a... you'd want to compare the twin fire to a DIS4.

I would have traded you my brand new 6AL with a the two step and rpm selecetor, I need to get rid of it all...lol. I would rather run the cdi or the m&w box anyday over any msd products.

Why?? I haven't had any issues with MSD ignitions for years of racing....neither do top fuel or funny car teams...haha

How long do you think they use 1 box? I've been told Nascar changes the box every race, and they have 2 in the car at all times for when one goes out.

lol, they do. alot of road racing bodies here in the states do the same thing with the 2 (msd) ignition boxes in the car. there are other reason's as to why they are supplied with boxes but the fact of the matter is that they have 2 boxes in the car at all times.

well their was nothing dome wrong. i used the tan & brown wire for a single coil setup. actually i was thinking about hooking up a second msd for a precaution, its a easy setup.

aslo if u watch nascar the ignition boxes are tied to the pass side dash.

msd is used in 80% + of all drag race cars at nhra!!!! why if it's so bad.
It's only if you are not selling it !!!

Top fuel and funny cars don't run the same MSD boxes we do, Nascar does. Which of those recycles them often and runs 2 in the car at a time?

I don't think many of the pro stock guys are running shelf boxes either. I know some pro sport compact guys have "special" boxes from msd. But whatever, i've been enough MSD failures to believe what i do, no use argueing about it.

nhra runs the msd because its the spec for the class, just like goodyear tires. its in the rules, period.

I still haven't had an MSD box fail on me. Maybe I got one of the "good" boxes..haha.

I have ran there 7al, 6al, and now the DIS-4 H.O. with no issues. I guess I am just wondering why the "other" boxes are better. Im not arguing, just wonder why?

i have had about twice as many dis4's come DOA than any aem cdi, be it the c2di or the twin fire (i have had no issues w/the twin fire at all)

i had one car that a c2di failed on and all we had was a dis4, put that in there, i swear the car lost 20hp, finally got a twin fire in and the car was completly different, picked up the lost power and then some...

every since my msd was installed the car misses at low rpm in the morning. I feel like selling all my msd stuff and using a stock ignition.

back in the day when evans tuned my car.. we had a mysterious breakup at like 7400rpms... decided to take the MSD box and external coil off the car, and everything was money.

Sold that stuff to a buddy of mine, and he had no problem with it. I guess its kinda luck of the draw with their stuff, or any stuff by that means.

A close friend of mine did have serious problems with his Pro Billet distributor last season, replaced it with stock and was good to go.

What MSD products are you using, tony?

I feel like I went back in time and am reading my own post.

Don't Worry, the random misfires will start soon. Go ahead and keep the msd box, the troubleshooting experience will do you good; you'll learn so much first you'll think it's the ign wires, maybe it's the spark plugs? ohh! it's got to be the knock sensor!.. check the wiring over and over again.. burn a few chips.. check a few grounds.. vac leaks... compression... ecu.. it can't be the MSD box "It's brand new" is what you'll say to yourself -- yeah, I'm bitter.

I've had msd wires fail (fall apart actually), two msd caps MELT and an SCI box that caused random misfires and a funky idle. The install was flawless and I'm very meticulous an careful under my hood - even threw out the stupid connectors for solder and two layers of heat shrink strait out of the box.

Furthermore, I watched 3 msd boxes go in the trash can the summer before last.

ALL IMPORT, I think it would be wise for you to find an alternative to the MSd box.
