Default is it bad to not have a cat converter on my obd2 car?

I had to use an ex exhaust manifold on my d16y8 swapped 97 civic HB and now i dont have a cat or a 2nd o2 sensor plugged in. Will this end up damaging my car or making it run shitty.

Im still averaging 33 mpg but when im in vtec around 6500 the car burps.

if you have a 2nd o2 sensor that's not plugged in, i'd think you'd get a cel.
hm.. is it bad to run without a cat? ask the nature

From what I've read on here, the second o2 is to check that the cat is working properly. It doesn't have any effect on the cars performance.

i thought a cel for any reason puts the car into limp mode.?.

no cat no problem (unless your a tree hugger) the effects will not be in out lifetime

you might want to look into it further, ive heard that the 2nd o2 sensor can affect the air/fuel ratio, which is why they make 02 simulators to send the correct signal to the ecu.
mine would idle rough for about 2-3 seconds at maybe 30 second intervals until i put a simulator on.

The second O2 sensor is nothing but a redundant sensor that makes sure the first O2 is working.

You WILL throw a code if it's not plugged into the wiring harness. Although, you can just zip-tie it out of the way if there is no need for it in the exhaust system. BUT PLUG IT IN!!!!

If its OBD2 its going to throw a code no matter what. The second O2S is to check the cats performance, nothing else. The first one messes with the air fuel mixture.

no. Only certain codes. I have had a mixture of codes and th eonly one that put me in limp mode was the MAP CEL

to plug it in means i would have to get a cat and i dont have a spare $250 at the time and i have more important things to do to my car like replacing both inner tie rods. its sucks having about 30* of free play in the wheel

No plug the o2 sensor into the wiring harness. not the cat. as long as the sensor is plugged up and zip-tied out of the way you shouldn't have a problem.

And keep the tree-hugging, earth-is-doomed discussions to GDD.

if you have the o2 plugged in with no cat, the CEL will cause you to go into limp mode. If you just unplug the o2 you will still have the CEL but no limp mode

Wrong. As stated above, the secondary O2 is only to tell the ECU if the cat is functioning correctly. If the cat is missing, you will throw a CEL, but you will not be in "limp mode", even with the sensor still plugged in.

Something else was causing your problem then, because a secondary O2 CEL won't affect engine performance.
