Fairly new clutch slips- Can glazing be worn off?
Early in the summer I put in a new clutch. I went with an Unorthodox racing unsprung clutch. It's a kevlar compound, supposed to be good for 80% more torque than a stocker.
I have a boosted Z6 making roughly 200whp. I normally don't abuse the clutch (only 6 or so months old).
Last weekend I did a good burnout at my friend's house (1st-3rd gear
). My buddy went to take my car for a spin & said it would slip above 2k rpms. I let everything cool off & then took it out. It was fine again.
Last week I made a pull on the highway with my friend & everything was fine. He went to make a run against a Mustang & I was just going to follow them. They get on it & I go to follow & the car just goes to redline 1st-3rd.
It seems the clutch is good when normal driving/good for a couple of pulls, but once it gets hot it slips like a ****.
Is there anything that can be done to fix this (just keep driving normal) or is it pretty much time for a new clutch?

sounds like you glazed your clutch. sometimes when a clutch gets abused before its break in period (600-700miles) it could get glazed. you could take your flywheel to a local shop and get it resurfaced. that should get rid of the problem. the wors case would be is you burnt your clutch but you said it was fine. so my suggestion is to look at your flywheel

Thanks man. It's past it's break-in period. I knew when it was broken in because with the Kevlar compound it slips for the first 500-1000 miles. I'd say it has a good 8-9k miles on it.
I guess it's time to drop the tranny & pull off the fidanza. I hate dropping transmissions.
