k swap?
not a exact drop in, does require a engine mount kit, and i'm sure there may be more, but since i've never did it myself, of have heard of too many people, i have no more clue then the mount kit at the moment.

Both will turn out to be around the same amount of work. on gdhatch.com or fitswap.com their is a pic of one with prototype hasport mounts.

if they offerd a new sport model with a k20z1(is that what the type s uses now?) then the fit would probably be one of the hottest import/"street racer" cars out, it would probably rival stock sti and evo's,

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see it come w/ a bigger engine from the factory, but I think that is why they developed the new Civic Si
.
Unfortunately, Honda's primary design/marketing goal for the Fit was to have a car that is highly fuel efficient, versatile, affordable, safe and from the factory sporty enough for the regular old non performance oriented human.
They wanted to KISS (keep it simple stupid)
If they come out w/ a new sport model, thats fine, I'll just swap in a K20 Type R and still have my low insurance premiums

No, All you need is to make a human sacrifice to the honda gods, and they will come down from Mt. Fuji and magically shove it in to your engine bay with the titanium shoe horn, they posses for just these types of miracles.

Unfortunately? Here I am wondering why Honda can't bring over a 1.3, and you're saying it's unfortunate that Honda didn't stick in a bigger engine?
I think that the best solution would to be offer several different engines: 1.3 for folks like me who just want a DD for driving around town, a 1.5 for some intermediate step in mpg and hp, and a k20 for all of you hot hatch fanatics. I actually think that sticking a factory turbo would be a better option: Think Honda City Turbo II
