Fuggin' insurance companies!
State farm just gave me a number for my stolen Type R.
The car was in BEEEYUUUUTIFUL condition, w/ 51k on the odometer.
They "valued" the car @ $16,375!
Am I the only one here who thinks that they are trying to shove a cattle prode up my **** w/ out the courtesy of any ****-Ease?
Please feel free to weigh in.
$16,375! You have got to be kidding me!

Can you not appeal? I've heard that settlements such as this are negotiable. Also, find as many '98s for sale as you can, and show your agent/adjuster.
I know someone on here did that for their stolen 2000 or 20001

state farm gives payouts based on location and claim adjuster officese. if you are not happy, appeal. or tell them you will be contacting your attorney. do not sign anything. its their job to compensate you.
this whole process is of interest to me as well...my claims adjuster is meeting me at work today...we'll see how those wheels start cranking. I've got to wait the 30 days (if not recovered, and so far it's not at almost two weeks), probably...did they not talk money until your waiting period (if there was one...maybe state farm doesn't have one?) was over or car was found and totalled?
thanks for any insight. I am looking at 32k miles on an '00.

when my first R was totalled due to another guys mistake (side swipped me at 70) they low balled me at first then I got my attorney involved and they gave me enough for the attorney, a new R and $ to play with the R

I'm going to show them the ads I have been collecting from the day that my car was stolen in order to get more $. That number is ridiculous. I found cars with mileage that was w/in 5k miles above & below my car that were selling from $18k-$19.5k. I asked $18k for my car. I feel that I was asking a very reasonable number.
My advice would be to scour the internet for Type R classisfieds. God knows you aren't gonna find them in the Washington Post or most local papers.
My opinion of State Farm after round one:
You are unlucky in that you live in NoVA. We have a hugely disproportionate number of ITR in the NoVA/DC/MD area. Hugely disproportionate to the population and territory.
Edit:
Oh, yeah, make sure you get Victor onboard if you're serious.
He collects information that might be of use to you.

Also, what does the hugely disproportionate number mean to me?
There's two bits of good news, though.
(1) You probably really could find a '98 ITR for that price around here, and
(2) State Farm has an appeal procedure that you could follow.
It wouldn't be that hard to glean ads and testimony that your car was worth much more.

I fully plan to appeal this as well. Are you familiar w/ the procedure George?

I think the price they are offering you is fair.
But ads include only an asking price. Most people (buyers and sellers) expect the final, actual selling price to be a couple grand less than the asking price.
If you were asking $18K for your car, then getting $16,500 for it is fair indeed.

The dealers that sell R's dont seem to think this, if you dont want it at the price they are offering they will simply wait and sell it to someone who does. IMHO, greg is getting a low ball price to see if he will bite. If he gets serious enough and has enough proof to justify a higher offer, im sure Crap Farm will give him more.

You gotta fight with the insurance company. It took them 2-3 months to decide on my 97 ITR. The best thing to do is to find an add for a 98 ITR with similar miles and show them that. Thats what I did, make sure you don't forget about all that nice stuff that you had in the car

It took me 6 counteroffers for them to properly value my last car...2000 itr, 10 months old with 19,785 miles on it...final total was ~$23,000.

Sorry man, but I along with I think most other people here are going to have to disagree with you on this one.
nsxtcjr is right, the ads you show them will indicate an ASKING price, not a selling price.
that is fact, not fiction.
ever buy a used car? maybe you haven't.
well I do suggest you ask for more money of course.. as one of the posts said it took more than a few counter-offers before he settled. that is exactly what you need to do. its simple, ask for more. do not settle for much less than the 18k or whatever you see fit. plain and simple.
Yes, it IS common for them to give you a lowball price anyhow, what do you think they want to do? -->throw their money at you? come on now. they are insurance companies.. they dont have the best 'rep' ya know?
