Default Teeth of Hole gone.. screw wont screw [help]

Hey all,

Just purchased a 2nd hand EM Racing Tri bar set and one of the bars will not screw onto the screw. After looking at the hole in the bar, the first teeth were flat i.e no grooves..

Is there anyway around this? Prehaps if I take it to a shop and ask them to sand the inside of the hole then re drill it or something?

Could someone experience or familiar with this give me some feedback?

Worst comes to worst, i'd have to fork out again to buy a tri bar.

Thanks.

Firstly, it's not a screw, it's a bolt. Take it to a machine shop. Tell them that the threads are stripped on the tapped hole in your bar. Give them the bolt that is supposed to go in the threads. Ask them to do one of the following. Put in a Helicoil, a keensert, or some other type of thread repair insert. Shouldn't cost more than 50 bucks. If you have the knowledge i would say buy the thread repair kit on mcmaster carr, that'll only cost 60 bucks and you get all the tools.

Wow, thats excellent help. I will approach an engineer familiar with metal/aluminium.

So I gather this is a fairly normal situation and proceedure?
I will post up pics as well

Here are some rough pics, since the bar ties onto 2 bolts (1 and either end) the must the have the same thread direction correct? I am beginning to think the threads on the both bolts were opposite..
