Default welding thinner material on 60amp mig

Im still new to all of this, but I found when experimenting with stick welding, on too thin of a piece of metal, and it was an older stick welder so I couldnt go with any less amps, the only way I could weld without blowing through was to start stop start stop.

For thinner metals, and without need for much structural support or perfect welds, can I use this pulse/start stop start stop method. My mig only goes down to 60amps (I got it cheap enough to justify it) Or am I still going to blow holes. Sheetmetal for example, would I be able to do this or at least tack it well.

PS - flux core only, no gas

I havent stick welded in a couple of years but im pretty sure 60 amps is going to thrash sheet metal. Maybe you could hit it real fast and whip it out and it would tack. It all depends on the thickness of the metal and the kind of rod you use. Also all stick welding uses flux.

i was recently attempting this. welding very thin metal with stick. i tried turning the amps way down to like 20 but it would kill the arc mid weld. turning it up more would typically burn through.

solution: probably turn it to liek 30ish depending on thickness and work VERY FAST.

im a noob at welding so just keep practicing with settings until you can find one that manages to weld the meterials together

my fault i made it sound like i was still stick welding. that was just a technique i used when i was stick welding, now I have a flux cored mig welder. Just wondering how this method would work at 60amps with flux cored wire. 60 amps is my lowest setting

60 is the lowest? hrm maybe up the spool rate and go really fast so that the heat doesn't burn through?

im not really sure. hopefully someone a lil more wise can lend an opinion

How big is this machine? The lowest on my lincoln mig is 30amp, which using .023 wire can still burn through thin sheetmetal, but can be controlled with copper held behind the weld. My welder is using c25 gas though. Try copper behind the weld is all I can suggest.
