Default Transmission Help Needed!

Hey guys, i had a friend of mine install a transmission for me because the one i had before was making some grinding noises, so i look on honda-tech and see that someone is selling a minty one. Well, i buy it, but the problem is that first gear is kind of hard to get into at times, and there is a slight noise coming from the tranny. Could this be that the guy that installed it for me messed something up, or could it have been that the guy sold me a bad tranny. I installed it several months after i bought it, so i couldn't really complain to the old owner of the tranny. Also, prior to installing this tranny i had recently gotten a new clutch put in. This is for a 96 ex. Thanks for the help guys.

If you only have a problem getting it into first gear and not the others, I'd suspect the tranny.

Sounds like a tranny problem to me.

Ive looked into this with my transmission as well. most of the 1st gear related issues are with the slider assembly. Ive had a few tranny specialists check mine out and from driving it they said the best thing to do is drop ur tranny, give them 150 to break it down and check over all of your parts and see whats going on.
Hopefully when i get this done ill get a thread for it to help people out with the 1st gear dilemma.

Damn, that sucks, the guy told me that it was MINT, i capitalize because he was stressing how new it was. He said that everything would work perfectly. Then, several months later, i get enough money to pop it in, and this happens. I was disappointed at how the first gear engagement was. I changed the oil on it twice since installing it hoping that it was just oiling problems. Once w/ synchromesh and second w/ honda. I guess just sucks to be me, seems like everything i buy turns out expletive up.
