Honda clutch or aftermarket clutch kit for same price?
Hey guys,
Its finally come time for me to change my clutch. I was looking on Honda clutch on http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com. I am trying to decide between buying the stuff at Honda or just buy a clutch kit. Here is the comparison between the two.
So, a Summary of my list so far:
1) Clutch Disk $66.66
2) Pressure Plate $81.81
3) Release Bearing - Throwout bearing $39.18
4) Left output shaft seal (axle seal) $ 6.05
5) Right output shaft seal (axle seal) $ 5.25
6)Rear main seal $10.73
7) pivot ball that the release fork pivots on $ 6.49
==============
Subtotal $216.17
*Sales Tax: $0.00
Shipping Charge $14.87
Handling Charge $4.95
=============
Total $235.99
================================================== ==
My mechanic (friend) told me to just buy a clutch kit from my local import parts store for $150.
In which case, I would still need:
4) Left output shaft seal (axle seal) $ 6.05
5) Right output shaft seal (axle seal) $ 5.25
6)Rear main seal $10.73
7) pivot ball that the release fork pivots on $ 6.49
Subtotal $28.52
*Sales Tax: $0.00
Shipping Charge $8.67
Handling Charge $4.95
Total $42.14
TOTAL= $192.14
Which one would you guys suggest? and also, which did you go with when you were replacing your own clutch? any comments on aftermarket OEM clutch versus Honda clutch?

well I am assuming your car is mostly stock and reliability and longevity are important. So, Unless you want to go with a name brand like competition clutch or exedy, I would with out a doubt go with oem honda, because whats the downside? It is designed to perfectly work for your car. I would never ever put some off brand clutch in my car from an import shop because if that ends up sucking, the labor to remove would it would make you so pissed. So spend a lil extra for piece of mind.
exedy makes an oem style clutch and everyone in the prelude forum lives by it for stock. cheaper then honda.
I have a centerforce dual friction. I love it an have over 100k on it. still perfect to this day.
on ebay i see 89+20 shipping
for the pressure plate/clutch/throw out/ alignment tool
I would also make sure to get a pilot bearing

Honda says that they do not sell the pilot bearing separately from the flywheel

okay. I will try that. Any other opinions on what type of OEM style clutch you have put in your cars?
