Default Shreded timing belt and 2 mystery bolts..

The timing belt on my 01 prelude is shreded.. I heard a grinding noise and removed the valve cover and found 2 bolts that have a 12mm head on them and are about 2" long grinding against the intake cam gear and wedged against the cover on that side..

Any idea where these 2 bolts could have came from? This is on a 01 SH engine..

The only bolts i remmember being near the camgears are the two that hold the rear cover to the head. Take pictures of what your talking about and what you saw.

If the 2 bolts are indeed the ones from the autotensioner, you had some serious failure there. For those bolts to come out would mean the autotensioner fell off. Good god the disaster.

Naa.. I remove everything from under the timing belt cover.. The tensioner and everything else was bolted on perfectly.. The timing belt was chewed up but it was still on there and tight..

What size bolts hold the back of the cover on to the head?

well lets see here....all the timing cover bolts were in tact? And the tensioner bolts?

Is the motor obd2?? If so, are the bolts that hold the oil pump pickup sensors in place??

this is not a comon occurrence from the best of my knowledge. the little bolt actually came up on top of my cam gears and got lodged in the far back corner aginst the valve cover. it actualy cut my timing belt in half.

How in the hell would those bolts end up on top of the cam gears? One would think they would get caught down by the crank somewhere and cause catastrophic damage.
