Gasket removal? (intake manifold)
hey, all. i'm having the hardest time removing the gasket material from my intake manifold. i've used the gasket remover spray, a putty knife, and a mini torch, and still some remains. i don't want to gouge the metal, but i can't get this crap off! any tips? and what if i do gouge the metal? should i just get the surface machined smooth? (i'm willing to spend a little money for a flat surface!!!) thanks!

that's what i was thinking.. besides, the intake manifold is close enought to the firewall as it is! hahahaa.
i've tried the razer blade AND my cell phone, neither do much.. except the cell phone starts makin noises when i hit the intake manifold with the keys...

if the gasket is old it is very hard to remove have you tried wetting it with like a solvent then using a new razor blade to remove it.
New razors cut thru way better but if you give up take it to a mahcine shop im sure a wire wheel can clean it up in 2 seconds

hmmm. wire wheel... i've got a brass one at work..
yeah, gasket is REALLY old. i've used the Gasket Remover from loctite and that barely does ANYTHING.. oh well. thanks though..

well, tested the wire wheel theory. looks like it will work. i just need to get a real soft one to put on an air chuck.. thanks for the suggestions!

make sure to spray the new gasket down with wd-40 so this doesn't happen again. i did that when i assembled my engine, and when i recently installed a heatshield gasket, it slid right off the head!

Razer blades works too, but takes forever. With razor blades, try slicing the the old gasket, like at an angle.

That's what I use. I have the medium green and the softer yellow one that I bought from my Mac Tools rep. Either is fine, but the yellow is more suited to the task.
