Default icon urban tank bag/backpack feedback? or any other suggestions?

anyone have an icon urban tank bag?

i'm looking for a tank bag that converts to a backpack. riding with a backpack full of engineering books is murder on my back.

paying 90 bucks for one is also painful, but someone brought up a good point that going down w/ a backpack on can't be good for your spine...

I've had good success with the icon urban tank bag between my F4i and my RC51.
As long as you have a metal tank to secure to it's great. My friend had an RR with a plastic tank cover that the bag didn't secure to and it was kind of flimsy.
I love it. It works great as both a tank bag and a back pag. It's the only thing from Icon i'd buy again. Great pockets, good expandability. Can carry a helmet with a small conversion. Clear plastic outer compartment, great for maps. Can carry a pretty decent amount.

I have a Rapid Transit tankbag that functions as a backpack, and does a damn good job. The only complaint that I have is that it's too small to carry a helmet.

I have one. My first impression was that it was cheap, but it did great on my 1400 mi. roadtrip up through yosemite and Northern CA back in May and several others, and I now have a different opinion. My only complaint is that it is a bit on the small side and it doesn't have the option to zip/ stack on additional bags like some of the others out there, so if you need more storage capacity you need to wear an additional backpack or get a new bag (I don't mind I travel REAL light). The fabric it is made out of seems to be a bit thin but that didn't seem to be a problem, actually made it somewhat lighter, I do however question its durability in regards to accidental high speed road abrasion.

My major concern being my first tank bag was whether or not the magnets would hold fast. I am glad to say they have not failed once. They are strong enoughyou can smack it against most vertical metallic surfaces, while filled, and it will still stick.

IMO tank bags for long distances are mandatory as they are a great way to take strain off your back by leaning forward. Only downside is you will notice a significant increase in turbulence as the air which would normally flow between your arms and chest will now be diverted up to your helmet and their is nowhere to tuck on long fast straights, which depending on your speed can feel like your head is being ripped off.

I was about to buy this bag, but did someone mention that the RR tanks aren't metal?

I almost forgot..... Clean those magnets prior to slapping onto your tank! They will pick up misc. debris with will scratch.

Do these packs have pads or fabric over the magnets? Probably a st00pid question

the 600rr's tank is metal but it has a plastic gas tank cover, so I wouldn't buy a magnet tank bag for it. I think the reason they did this was to lower the CG

Yes. The magnets are sealed in small velcro pockets so they can be removed if so desired.

I just picked one up and I'm satisfied. Great flexibility as it works as a tankbag and a backpack. In addition, it carries a helmet. My only complaint is the zippers feel kinda cheap but they've held up fine so far. I picked mine up for a good price from http://www.sandhillspowersports.com with free shipping FTW!
