Default Slipping gears on a 98 Civic

Something is wrong with my tranny but I haven't the foggiest idea what. When I drive, even if I don't push the clutch in I can pull the shifter out of 2nd and 3rd. When I do this the gears disengage too. What could be causing this? It's only in 2nd and 3rd gear, all the other gears lock out and I can't move the shifter until I put my foot down.

Thanks for any help.
