Default JDM B18C Build - 200whp to 220whp - Opinions Appreciated

I need some help on this one ladies and gentlemen. I am building up my first JDM B18C and am currently putting down 200whp but am looking to hopefully jump to around 220whp. That's the goal. I would like some recommendations to research in terms of cams/profiles, headwork, valve job, port/polish, etc. What am I looking at spending to get to this number? I believe the tuner has done a great job in getting that coveted 200whp goal with the given modifications but who wouldn't want more??

Here is the rundown on the current specs:

• AEM Cold Air Intake
• Comptech Race Header Jet Hot Coated (Eliminates Cat)
• Free flowing 2.5in exhaust mated to Magnaflow Oval Muffler
• Mugen Oil Pan
• Skunk2 Stage 1 Cams (old profile and NOT the Pro Series)
• Megan Racing Adjustable Cam Gears
• B&M Fuel Pressure Regulator Gauge
• AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator
• Carbing Oil Catch Can
• Head Milled 20 Thou + Mugen HG = 12:1 Compression Ratio
• Microtech Standalone ECU
• Exedy Organic Clutch
• Exedy Lightweight Flywheel
• CTR Crank Pulley
• NGK Spark Plug Wires
• Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket
• Setrab 19 Row Oil Cooler With Relocation Kit
• Bored Throttle Body 64.5mm Tapered to 70 at the butterfly
• Fluidyne Full Length Radiator
• FAL SlimLine Fan
• Walbro Fuel Pump
• RC 310 Injectors

Again, I would greatly appreciate any help on building this motor to my goal of 220whp. I do not want to turbo it, nor do I want to build something else. It has always been a dream of mine to build a B18C. I have searched a lot and I would still like personal opinions to help judge what I should do.

And in advance, you guys are always a lot of help.

OEM Wires (Sumitomo Brand)

NGK Wires

Talk to DonF in Jacksonville Florida, there things he can help you with.

He's seen the promise land "200whp" many times.

Does Don actually build engines and dyno tune them? I am on unfamiliar ground although I have heard his name mentioned before here on Honda-Tech.

Yes he builds motors and tunes them on his engine dyno. He's a good guy to know during your engine build process.

As for NGK wires. I've backed to back them against OE wires. The choice was clear.

220whp is about 252 on the engine dyno. To get over 245 engine dyno numbers, you are going to need alot bigger cam than S2S1.

Rocket~

I am really unsure as to what cam spec is needed in my application. I wouldn't know the difference between S2S2 vs. Toda B vs M22. I know I have a lot of research to do here but I'd like to narrow my searching here in the coming days to a few cam manufacturers and pick according to my power/wallet/tuneability needs.

First off, NGK is the OEM replacement brand for G3 Integra's, this Sumitomo>NGK stuff is crap. Anyways, ignition system components will make very little difference to his or any all motor setup anyway. Just be sure whatever wires you have are undamaged and your straight.

I agree that the #1 item you should look into upgrading are your cams, there is definitley room for improvement there. And your existing compression level leaves your options pretty wide open.
You could go with a Spoon head gasket for a slight bump up in compression, it's just a c-hair thinner than Mugen's. Or a 1 layer OEM head gasket will provide a larger bump.
A P&P is also a very viable next step.

Do you really think that a 0.05 raise of compression is gonna make that big of difference?

Have you personally tested these as Rocket has?

Back on topic. I think you're actually making very good numbers for as mild of setup as you have. If you were to drop some M22's, an SMSP/RMF/DTR header and some headwork, 220whp would be very very acheivable!

220whp is easily in reach. I think some Rocket Motorsport cams known as (RM24x) would help alot because you have a 1.8. Some P&P and ITB's and a good retune and your setup would be killer.

ill agree with cleanrice here,
getting an RMF SMSP or something along those lines would greatly increase your output. and yes a .5 increase in compression WILL make a good difference in his power output.

i think your just 2 cams and a header away from a big smile.
also maybe you should try a little retune?
200whp with your mods sounds kinda low.
what dyno was that on?

im not familiar with clayton dynos but dont these numbers seem a bit "optimistic" for the mods posted? ive seen cars with much more work done and bigger cams not even making 200. i dont know someone tell me what im missing. ive just never heard of stage 1's doing 200 before.

his numbers are a little under if anything, cars doing that under 200 with his mods are missing that thing called tuning.
i did 208 with a 97JDMITR
JDM ITR cams.
stock int.
single ply oem.
adjustable cam gears.
stock block
01 JDM ITR header
stock injectors no cat tsudo exhaust
short ram and a tune.

i assumed since he said JDM b18c he meant JDM ITRmotor. the c4... i guess he could mean JDM GSR, it wasnt specified i dont think... and it was a mustang i believe?
