I SO badly want to move out of this godforsaken state.
Now for the story. Last night I drive the "race kaa" home from my parents. I get back home ~7pm, leave the car unattended until 11am this morning. When I get in the car to go to class, I realize the steering wheel is crooked (turned clockwise 180 degrees) and my hood is popped. Nothing looks damaged, but this is really friggin' weird. I need to go to class, so I decide to worry about it later. On the way back home from school, the steering wheel is now cocked at 90 degrees, odder still. I get back without any problem, parallel park on the street, and go inside to eat, take care of the dog, etc. Having little faith in the police system, and with no visible signs of damage, I don't bother calling the popo, instead thinking I'll just take it elsewhere and not ever bring it back here.
Well, when I try to leave, I find that the steering wheel turns completely free, and without turning the drive wheels. WTF? The cocking of the wheel makes sense now, but I can't get out of the damn parking space. Great. So now AAA is on their way, and I have no vehicle. And I'm completely paranoid, because whoever did this bothered to try covering up their tracks (why they didn't just drive it away last night, I have no idea), meaning to me that they're going to try coming back for it.
******* lowlife scumbags. My girlfriend is encouraging a stakeout, which I'm game for. Anyone local want to join in?

This problem is pretty widespread. Honda & Acura theft is out of control here in Colorado too, and the thieves have even been known to tow cars that they can't get to start. A couple of people have had cars stolen out of their closed garages too.
A decent solution is MobileIQ: http://www.mobileiq.us
It's cheaper than LoJack and it works a lot better. It cost me around $450 installed.

There are thieves in CC, I have a pretty good idea on who they might be as well.
Makes me glad to live in the woods.
So Adam, what is the car needing, any dead bodies turn up around your house

They are taking anything Honda/Acura. Good friend of mine in Gilbert, AZ had someone break into his 91 4 door, completely stock 4 dr, luckliy he heard and and ran out and as the guy took off my buddies bro came around the back of the house and got a couple good hits on him while dragging him off the wall. Three people went to jail and my buddy took pics of them in the back of the police car.

I have mine covered for theft, fire, someone hitting my trailer and knocking it off while in rout to race, ect.... It's only like $250 per year. However, If I'm in the car then nothing is covered.

I paid $50 for my first year, which gave me 12 "actions", but I think they have since changed it to $100 per year with 100 actions. That works out to just a hair over $8 per month. It's pretty affordable.

Each time you look for your car to see where it is located is considered 1 action? I looked over the website that is a neat little device. Wonder what the installation is like.

I don't get it. What did they do to the car to make it act that way, and how was that going to help them steal it? Maybe it's just early, but if they were going to steal the car wouldn't it be gone?

You know, it would probably be pretty easy to set up a trap. a car on a trailer, not connected to anything. That would be the way to catch them, although, it could turn pretty ugly confronting, or following....

Assuming the cops found the bodies, I guess I could see how it would get ugly.

Yeah, it's one action every time the unit communicates with the service (ie you locating the vehicle, or optional automatic notifcations such as battery cut and unauthorized movement).
The installation is pretty simple... just connect it to a constant source of 12 volts and find somewhere to hide the unit. There is a wire loop that you can cut and hook up to the ignition so that it will activate the "unauthorized movement" notification when the car moves with the ignition off, but of course that's not really any good... a thief hotwiring the car would likely defeat that, and then you'd also have it calling you every time you trailer it somewhere. So, what most people do is put a hidden switch on that wire... If the car moves without that switch being on, regardless of if it's towed or driven, it calls me up and tells me where it is. I also have it set to send me a text message via e-mail too.

Update:
I got the car towed to another location, so it's safe for the time being. It took over an hour to get the bastard loaded onto the truck because we couldn't steer it though, so I've only had a little time to examine the damage. The first big thing I found out is that the steering column lock is NOT broken as originally expected. BUT the steering wheel splines that hold it on the column are completely destroyed, so essentially the steering wheel was turning without having any effect on the column. How I made it to school and back, I have no idea.
Meanwhile, the cops had nothing to go on, as there was no physical evidence of damage. They wrote up an "Article of Suspicion (Suspetise!11!)" or whatever, but that doesn't really mean jack. Were it not for the popped hood, I'd think my steering wheel randomly failed. I'm going now to look the car over more thoroughly, and I'll update if a stakeout will or will not be taking place.
