not legal.

H2-H5 must be a Honda ECU. The Honda ECU can be from any other Honda car and it may be re-programed (ie Hondata), but a full stand alone computer made by some other company is NOT legal.

...unless they change the rules.

hi guys.

i am not 100% sure, but i believe it is legal to use any type of ecu electronics, as long as it fits in the original ecu case......

as i said, i am not 100% sure, but i believe this to be the case.....

that being said, if motec M4 will fit in the original ecu case, and uses the oem sensors and disty and etc etc, then i believe it would be legal????

good luck

According to the current rule set

If these rules do not expressly state a modification is allowed, it is prohibited

7.1 Engine
k) Any OEM Honda or Acura ECU (including other models, domestic markets (JDM) and generations) may be used, and may be relocated ONLY to facilitate cage installation. Reprogramming of OEM ECU is allowed. Piggyback ECU’s that plug into the OEM ECU (e.g. Hondata) are allowed. VAFC (VTEC/Air/Fuel) controllers or other devices that perform the same function may be used.

So if the M4 is used in conjuction with the stock ECU it is legal?

The M4 can also be considered a data logger no?

Piggy back systems are allowed in H2-H5. Stand alone systems are not!

that'd rule out AEM's ems correct? I like what hondata offers, but I also like what some standalones offer as well.

Yep.
The rule might need some clarification from talking with others, but I thought it was rather clear.

Why does everyone like to throw money away. Some OBD0 and almost all OBD1 honda ECU's can be chipped for $15 in parts!

I personally prefer Hondata over AEM, the software is much more user friendly, there were far less bugs, and I had some issues that were related to my AEM box in particular which were poorly dealt with by AEM's support.

I bet you could run an Autronic PnP system in H2-H5 and nobody would know. The only giveaway would be the vacuum line running to the ECU. I don't really see what the big deal is though. Do people think theres some magic power to be gained just because the Motec is more expensive?
