Default Problems after rebuild

Long story attempted short, I bought my 98 ITR theft recovery back in June 05. When I bought it, there was substantial oil blow-by, the exhaust would be blue, and blackish liquid would even come out and get thrown on the back of the car. The car also has an ECU "custom programmed" by a guy off eBay.

I took my engine to a good swap shop last October for a rebuild. They did a whole gasket kit including valve seals, piston rings, new valves etc. After a very careful break-in, the engine runs perfectly but I still find blackish liquid on the rear after hitting VTEC. I was thinking maybe the dick who programmed the ECU just threw a bunch of fuel on in VTEC and maybe the unburned fuel is picking up oil residue in the exhaust on the way out. Any ideas???

Also, when the engine is cold, it still smokes. Shitty rebuild?

Thanks,
Jake

Did the rebuild include boring the cylinders (i.e. .025 OB) to clean them up? I would get a reputable tuner to look at the mapping on the ECU as well and maybe retune.

ditto. if it smokes on startup, might want to check your spark plug o rings at the valve cover to make sure no oil is seeping into the cylinders. also some of that black crap could just be a mix of carbon buildup in the exhaust and water/condensation from when the car is warming up. my car doesnt use much oil but I still get black **** spitting from the exhaust and after the first few minutes of idling, I can see a small pool of water/condesation in the tip of the muffler.

Very good point, i'll check the spark plug o rings later today. I would assume they honed the cylinder walls (you're supposed to with ring replacements). I recently bought an S300 so that should fix the ECU deal.

That makes me feel better about the warming up smoke, the VTEC smoke/liquid is still bad, right? I'll take pics of the rear later...

If it still smokes after the ECU is fixed, and I can't find something stupid to fix it, I'm gonna have to go back to the shop. I have a feeling they will be dicks and I'll end up tearing it apart myself to see what they did wrong.

Your car is likley running rich. The black stuff is likley carbon build up. Get your car checked with a wideband.
