Default 97-01 Prelude vs 98-02 SI?

Hey guys, i have the option between choosing a 97-01 prelude or the 99-02 SI (the one with the b16b) and I wanted to know how much the difference in drag racing comparing the prelude and the SI? The SI is rated at 160/111 according to consumerguide and the prelude is 190/160.

Just wanted to know when you race both these cars vs each other, does the SI last or does the prelude come out by a big margin?

Well, it's not really bench racing. I haven't been able to found any SI dyno graphis but I've found a few preludes. Preludes seem to make 170/130 on the wheels but I have no clue about the SI. Also, I've seen a few people hit low 15's with the prelude close to stock settings.

Is it like a EVO and a WRX where it depends on the driver or is there a noticable difference is what im asking.

Go to Motor Trend or something and find a list of 1/4 mile times.

Drag racing either of those cars stock is pretty lame anyhow......not saying you're doing that but in general.

Pretty much at horsepower so if i wanted to do some mods to it, it wouldn't be a problem.

I don't want a hatch or a project car though. Something with a decent interior aswell and reliablity so honda wins..

Prelude will make more hp/tq, but it's heavy so performance kinda evens out...it is nicer though

this right here tells me everything i need to know.....i think your best bet is to run to blockbuster as fast as you can, rent all 3 fast and the furious movies, and spend a week watching them nonstop 24 hours a day....this should give you all the info you need to make an educated decision about what car to buy

your best bet is to get that civic with the b16b but try to find one with an automatic transmission as they were good for an extra 30 horsepower from the factory and ran mid 13's stock...when you find one let us know

or you could just buy the prelude and upgrade your muffler bearings and conuter valve and you will easily be 240 whp

I can smoke Si all day, and not even trying...thought those were fast bt they're not...if you want power...get an EG/EK and swap in a B16B...you'll be flying....

you would probably spend the same amount...that's a good deal also instead of getting a lude or SI....on the other hand you can just drop an H in the eg/ek.....

b16b came in the ctr not the 99-00 si
those came with b16a2
and h22 preludes walk on those :D
ive perosnally seen 6 races between the 2
different driver and car and the prelude would always come on top 4th and 5th gen

Best bang for the buck (hp wise) would be a Neon SRT4.

It always depends on the driver. You should buy a Lexus that way you dont have to know how to parallel park either!

Prelude all the way. That gen SI is ugly as hell and not fast either.

A better comparison would have been Integra GSR vs a 5th gen lude. That is a tough call.

Prelude > GSR > Civic Si

Pertains to all categories. Looks, handling, speed, etc. Except maybe transmission reliability.

I've owned each of the three cars also.

So you are saying that you take SRT-4's with your prelude?! Unless you have more than your basic bolt ons, The SRT-4 is going to eat the prelude. I am a fan of torque which is one of the major reasons I got a prelude. The 4th gen is an amazing car for the design and the engine. If you want style and power, get a prelude. If you plan to rice out then CIVIC is the way to go.

My 4th gen (h22) with only I/E has taken multiple near stock SI's and a couple GSR's. But I have lost to a GSR.. once! I don't know how stock it was though. I run 15.0-15.1 in the 1/4 mile(really would like to get to the 14's by improving my driving skill)... my friends GSR ran 15.1-15.2 when we went at it.
