Default Exhaust wrap

So whats the deal with exhaust wraping? Is it good or bad? I've researched the topic to find that some believe it to work as a plus due to the lower bay tempature ,while also gaining power by the increased heat confined to the header , downpipe etc. I have also heard that the same addition in heat within the exhaust system potentially damages heads by extreme warpage. Whats the deal? I wanna wrap my pipes but im afraid of negitive results.

Well, I got my header wrapped recently and did notice that my hood DOES NOT get as hot as it used to. After coming home, I think I could actually fry an egg on my hood without the header wrap. Good or bad? Can't answer that yet.

the only negative i have heard goes something like this.

the exhaust wrap will hold moister, this could/will result in rusting. some do not recommend it on daily drivers.

i have no experience, i am just repeating what i have heard/read.

How could that be possible? Wouldnt the heat instantly evaporate any moisture? I would think so.

I have header wrap-shaped rust all over my DC header. It will hold in moisture unless you run your car 24 hrs a day....which I didn't.

the purpose is not necessarily to lower heat in the engine bay although it may help a little

heat wrap is designed to keep the heat in the header.....hotter gas will increase the exhaust velocity and flow aiding the scavaging effect that a good header will produce

conversely they make heat tape....it is designed to keep heat out.....i guess you could wrap your intake with it or other things you want to keep cooler than the rest of the engine bay

Contrary my friend.

SS WILL RUST.

It just won't rust as easily-quickly
