Ok guys, I have always contemplated how great it would be to have a turbo Type R.. and I see all these guys who have turbo'd their Type Rs, and they seem to love it.. But is it really worth it? All the hassle, money, time, effort... What do you guys think?

turbo is fun for a while, but when problems start arising, you start getting really frustrated because there are countless things that can go wrong.

This is the same with any setup whether it is NA or FI. The further you move away from factory parts, the less reliable it gets.

This is something only you can answer. But judging by the overwhelming popularity of forced induction now, it's probably safe to say that it is. But make sure you do everything right the first time. It's when you start cutting corners and taking shortcuts that things start to get ugly. Good Luck

if your going boost , just build it right .and as long as you are not boosting over 10lbs and keep the maintance you should be ok.IMO and using forged internals would be a big +,dont be cheap about it and it will last a long time(some people attend to be cheap with some set ups) lots of work and if you really think of going turbo , go for it . either set up and depends on how radical of a set up you go with. as long as you have some one do it for you right with all the good components you should have a problem.

Yeah, turbo has been a consideration for a long long time, but it just seems like I'm looking at $10,000+ to get it right....

been there , was thinking of changing my n/a set up to turbo (which my friend did) and to get it right a 2.0l (b18c5 block) and all the things that you need to it it was like 10 and also he got some nice hook up with the things that he is getting .
its a lot of money , but it is fun if you spend what you need to spend on a turbo set up

Yeah, I was looking at the Importbuilders 2.0 Liter Killer Turbo Block. Only I don't particularly care for the $3350 price tag!

Riding in friends cars with over 400 to the wheels, let me say there is no way to describe that feeling.

I know you were considering selling your car. If you are thinking about boosting your R, why not sell your R and buy a MKIV Supra? $1000 in BPU mods and you're around 400HP (I believe at the fly, but still....damn!!) That's the way I'd go if I was in your situation and I wanted boost.

nope, BPU MKIV's put down 400 to the wheels

I'm curious how Boost and VTEC works, can anyone provide some insight?

I too am wondering about this.. Several people have told me that VTEC is disengaged once you go turbo.. But then others have told me it is not. Does it all depend on the tuner?

I can't imagine 400 to the wheels. I rode in Godspeeds WRX, which is 311 to the wheels, and I've been dreaming about boost ever since...
stupid rides in other peoples cars
