Growling/Rattling sound from header/cat area

Growling/Rattling sound from header/cat area
94 Si Prelude h23a with the slushbox.
My problem is that under accel it sounds like there is an exhaust leak from around the downpipe/cat converter area. It's really annoying, almost like my engine is going to blow up.
And is it common for h23's to run pretty loud in their later years? My engine also somewhat whines when its in low rpms (1k-2k)
Ive searched, but nothing. Help appreciated.
