(This guy is like 15 min away from me has a shop)

I was wondering is JDM-92-95-HONDA-B16A2 = to 99-00 SIR Canadian ? He told me the motor comes from japan. Also does it mean that the motor is 14 years old since its from 92 ? Please help thanks.

First off, there is no such thing as a "JDM-92-95-HONDA-B16A2." It is either a JDM SIRII from a '92-95, or it is a B16a2 from a USDM '99-00 Civic. The USDM B16a2 is the same as the Canadian SIR.

Oh, and btw, JDM B16's are not B16a2's either. They are strickly stamped B16a, but not B16a2.

ask for a picture of the "b16a" stamp on the block. or just drive over there and check for yourself.

If the motor's JDM it's not a B16a2, it's just a B16a. There was a JDM B16 from 92-95, it'll just have a "B16a" on the engine stamp.

I don't know anything about the SiR but I know it's not that. JDM is Japanese, not Canadian or American or anything else.

There is no equivalent, it only existed in Japan.

I THINK:
It's still possible that that's a USDM motor from 92-95. I'm pretty sure some del sol's from 92-95 had a B16a2 in them. Though it's still not the same as a JDM B16a from 92-95, slightly more HP in the JDM model, slightly different numbers.

Ask 'em to see the engine stamp, if it has any number at the end it's a fake (not JDM).

But I mean, even if it was the USDM B16a2 that's still a pretty good engine...I mean I wouldn't NOT buy it if you wanted it just b/c it's USDM opposed to JDM.

On the flipside you are correct, this motor is 11 - 14 years old, weather it be JDM or USDM.

Unless it's a 99/00 Si but that was USDM and I don't think he woulda mentioned JDM if it was a 99/00 Si.

SO yeah, it's old, and since it's out of the car there's no real way to check the mileage.

I say if u want it, buy it, and install it ASAP!!!!. He said there's a 30 day warranty so install it in 5, this way it gives you 25 to drive it and see if there's any problems with it. I doubt he'd issue a warranty if it wasn't good though.

EDIT:
Just incase you didn't know the engine code is to the left (when looking at the car from the front) of the exhaust manifold/header and down a bit, it's a square platform with the engine code on it.

Actually, and I don't know why the numbering went backwards, but Del Sol's with DOHC's were B16a3. Also, I'll have to check, but I don't think all year Del Sol's were available with the B16, but later models were.

New info (for this thread).

Just searched and found:

'94-95 Del Sol's were available with OBD1 B16a3
'96-97 Del Sol's were available with OBD2a B16a2.

That is all.
