motor seems to easy to turn over
ok so today i changed my leaky rear main (PITA BTW) and as i was unbolting the flywheel i was able to turn the motor over fairly easily. I could hear air coming out of the intake manifold as well.
the spark plugs were still in
using 2 foot breaker bar on the bolts (if that makes a difference)
anyways, i was just wandering if it is normal for me to be able to turn the motor over that easy?
i plan on compression testing ASAP
d16z6 btw

uhh....i know that
im just saying that i dont think i should be able to turn the motor over with the spark plugs in, and air shouldnt come out of the IM when doing so..
at least i dont think it should.
thats alot of compresion (hopefully anyways)

you will hear noise when you crank a motor by hand, the valves still open and close and what not, a 2 foot breaker definatly would make it quite easy while turning the flywheel.
it sounds like you were turning the motor over backwards, back in voc school my engines teacher tryed tellin me that all motors turned clockwise, i argued with him until we went to the parkin lot to show him he was wrong

well, loosening is backwards for the motor, but it did it when tightening the flywheel too.
if everything is ok, then thats good
i just figured it was weird. i mean, when you hit a compression stroke i figured i wouldnt be able to budge it

i was able to turn my crank pully by hand, it got hard when i hit a compression stroke, but i still was able to turn it by hand
I just replaced my rear main oil seal as well.
I think it is normal for the engine to turn over easily b/c it was easy for me to turn also. I just stuck a screw driver thru one of the holes on the outer part of the flywheel to keep the engine from turning.

yeah i used an extension.
i just wanted to make sure this rebuilt engine wasnt rebuilt to crap and i wasted my money on it.
thanks for the responses guys. now its time to fix the idle probs and brakes
