Would you go again? Or is it too much trouble with all the people, heat, traffic, etc. I want to go and take some friends that aren't really all that into GP but are into motorcycling. I don't know if they'll enjoy it or just wanna go home.
BTW, tickets on sale starting Nov. 1st.

If you can get paddock passes and don't get raped on a hotel. I would go back, I could not get paddock passes this year, sucked. Vendors had some good stuff there for cheap too.
it is an awesome event.
and just get paddock passes.. rent an rv and camp there - it is a blast! just make sure you stock up before you get htere, cause you will be there all three days.
me, jmur1, .rj, and asteele all went this year, and can say it was a fsckin blast.
going next year again! w00t

I'm definitely going again next year. As for the heat I doubt next year will be the same as it was an all time record by 12 degrees. Usually its more towards the low 80's (like it was in 2005).
I'd recommend jumping on paddock passes immediately because they'll sell out fast. If you've got 4 people a hotel might not be a bad deal. There are plenty of hotels within 30 minutes but keep in mind that you might have to deal with buses and what not. If your ride you'll be a ok since they have dedicated roads and parking for bikes.
Camping is cheaper and you won't have to worry about the transportation which is why we're doing that again next year.

How is that possible? You couldn't buy a paddock pass without also buying a general admission ticket.

They did this thing where the people that bought the big $$$ packages last year got first dibs on everything, including all passes and parking. Then tickets were sold to regular people (public).

paddock passes were available when tickets were made available, and there was also a "2nd chance" lottery for paddock passes as the event got closer.

I'ma try and get me two this year then
I'ma try and get me two this year then
I've been the past two years in a row. 2005 my buddy and I went really spontaneously and came up on 2 tickets and drove up and slept in the car the whole weekend. That was a lot of fun. 2006 I went with my dad, bro, & step mom. Paddock passes are definitely a must as well as grandstand seating (don't forget the giant umbrellas!!!). It was waaaay too hot for me this past year. I have never sweated so much in my entire life and was pretty damn uncomfortable the whole time on the track.
Being that this past year's experience wasn.t as pleasant..I have been questioning whether or not I would be willing to do it all again. But..I don't know how I could pass up seeing Rossi in person on a race track since his career is coming to a close pretty soon. I got the chance to see him make two passes and it made the whole trip worth it.
I don't know how people who aren't enthusiasts could stand it though. I was barely tolerating it at some points and I love Moto GP. I highly doubt anyone who is not a big fan could stand being jam-packed into one of those bridges in 100+ heat just trying to get out of the race track at the end of the day. As well as being shoulder to shoulder for food at lunch time and whatnot. I can't believe what difference the temperature made this year.
Oh yeah! If you don't get the preferred parking...you are mentally disabled.

Well..general parking was designated at lots on campus at the local community colleges. <U>Preferred parking was on-site at the track</U>.
There were these crazy lines at the end of the day for the shuttles to take people to the off-site lots. It looked like hell having to stand there at the end of the exhausting day just to wait to get to your car.

How was it leaving the preferred parking in your car?

MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2006) - Miller Event Management, an industry leader in spectator management, has been hired to manage spectator parking and traffic flow for the 2007 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, July 20-22, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The 2006 event, while featuring thrilling on-track racing and improved spectator parking and traffic flow, will also be remembered for the record-breaking heat and the lengthy delays fans using the new shuttle service faced when leaving the circuit Sunday afternoon.
“While we can’t control the weather, the horrendous delays fans experienced with the shuttle on Sunday afternoon could have been prevented. Our post-race analysis indicates they were the result of improper execution of our plan,” said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “The plan wasn’t bad, just the execution. The hiring of Miller Event Management provides better coordination of all elements, especially the shuttle system transporting spectators from the CSUMB (California State University Monterey Bay) parking area to the Wolf Hill parking lot at the track.”
Miller Event Management has been working at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2006, but their role has been limited to managing spectator parking only at July's Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix and last weekend’s Monterey Sports Car Championships.
“We take our job very seriously and are committed to working with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the various transportation and law enforcement agencies to resolve the previous issues and ensure that they are not repeated,” said Jim Miller, president of the San Luis Obispo-based Miller Event Management. “Our role has been limited so far, but has provided a good foundation for us to increase our responsibility for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.”
While the final parking and traffic flow plan is still being refined in preparation for release early next year, following is an outline of what fans can expect in 2007.
FREE SPECTATOR CAR PARKING - The free shuttle system returns with new management from Miller Events, more buses and more loading gates. Fans will continue to park at CSUMB, just off Hwy 1, and will be transported in motor coaches to the Wolf Hill parking area at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
FREE MOTORCYCLE PARKING - Free motorcycle parking, along with a motorcycle-designated entrance/exit, will again be provided.
FREE Monterey-Salinas Transit Buses - The local MST bus service provides free rides to fans holding tickets to the event. Buses run throughout the weekend and operate from near hotels in Monterey, Carmel, Seaside and Salinas. Additional buses are being added for 2007.
PAID ONSITE PARKING - An increased but still limited number of passes for parking in Wolf Hill are available for $50 for the weekend. Parking passes will go on-sale on November 1, along with all event tickets.
Tickets for the 2007 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix go on sale November 1. Detailed information is available at http://www.laguna-seca.com or http://www.redbullusgrandprix.com.</TD></TR></TABLE>
