There's all sorts of variables, for example I have my house insurance through State Farm so I get a multi-line discount as well as a multi-car discount, but here's what I pay for my auto insurance:
Age: 38
Car: '99 LX
Ins. Co.: State Farm
Payment: $220 every six months ("full coverage") plus $110 every six months for my '93 Volvo (liability & towing only)
And yes, I am paying for it myself. I've been paying my own insurance since before you (EvenStar) were born. By the way, are you paying for comprehensive or collision? On a 22 year old car, you really don't need those, and reduce your liability to your state's minimum (unless you have assetts that you need to protect).

to OP, why in the world are you paying full coverage for a 85 car? First of all, you should do some research and see which insurance companies will give you the best rate, at 250 a month you might as well bend over backwards and let them give it to you some more. words of advice, 1. get liability 2. research other insurance companies 3. if liability doesnt lower your rate dramatically, then switch insurance companies that you have researched in step 2.

lol funny you guys made this, I'm looking for a new insurance company. I've been on my family's policy and we've got Home and 4 cars insured through Travelers and have been with them for like 30 years and the bastards are going to drop us completely because I got a ticket (19 clean record except for this one).
As of right now Geico looks like what i'll be getting

For what it’s worth, the reputation that I’ve heard about Geico is that they also will drop somebody after one ticket.
Next time… go to court. Getting out of a ticket is very easy for all basic moving violations (speeding, not stopping all the way at a stop sign, etc). You’ll pay $25 or $50 more than the face value of the ticket and then you may need to go to traffic school, attend a safe driving lecture, or whatever, but then the ticket goes away and the insurance company doesn’t find out about it. Exactly how to get out of a ticket varies from state to state and county to county, and in your case it’s too late now since your insurance company already found out about it.
If it was a DUI, if there was an accident, or anything involving a school bus, then you probably won't be able to do what I described above.

Ah trust me Heat, I DID go to court
19, no other accidents, tickets, etc first one , Reckless granted, took the Driver Improvement Course from DMV the whole nine, I didn't even get the ticket reduced. And insurance doesn't know about it just yet, we called in advance and posed the hypothetical situation haha

Wow. Either the judge had a stick up his ***, you pissed him off somehow in court, or what your ticket was for was really bad. Sorry about the situation.
One option for you to reduce your insurance costs would be to carry the minimum insurance required by your state's law (liability only). Especially if you are off on your own (say, college) you don't have any assets to potentially lose, so why carry more than you have to? Just one school of thought.
The other school of thought is that you have a moral responsibility to carry a much larger amount of auto insurance in order to make right any damage you may cause.
