Default Help with a strange noise in 92 gsr!

No replies in the tech section so I guess i'll try here...

So heres the deal... 92 gsr, 205k, dist, timing belt, water pump, tensioner all replaced at about 160k. Cap, coil and rotor were replaced not too long ago but the noise was there before hand.
So in the morning, start up car, no noises but somewhat high rpm then gradually goes down to normal (i think due to IACV or FICV?) needs to be cleaned. Let it warm up for a couple few minutes then take off.

As soon as i get momentum there is a god aweful grinding/squeeling noise that sounds like the dist going out. About 15 seconds into it the noise goes away. I've tried pressing in the clutch to see if the noise changes, no luck. I try taking it out of gear and coasting to notice anything, no luck. Try revving it up, it's not consistant with the revs. Then, dont hear a thing for the rest of the commute (about 35 min).

Get to work, car sits for 8hrs or so, get back in start it up, let it warm up for a few minutes, take off and the SAME noise, for another 10-15 seconds then goes away. I can commute home, run errands, turn car off then on multiple times and no noise, stop, go no matter what, the noise never comes back until it's been sitting for at least 8hrs or longer. I did notice that the other day when i left work, I let the car warm up for a bit longer than normal (on the phone) and after i took off there was no noise...

So can anyone help me out with this situation? Im really freaking stumpped... Im thinking about buying a new dist from Dist King but I just have a faint feeling this may not be the cause. I would think if it was that the noise would be constant while driving?? And if it was the dist wouldn't the noise be consistant with the revs? I've never had a dist bearing go out on me so im not sure of the sypmtoms...

Someone please help! i dont want the DB to die

TIA

I had a 92 gsr and if its the same noise i had it was wierd. It kinda sounds like somehting that turns is chattering/squeaking, right? Well my problem ended up being something in the ABS system.. It got fixed by the person i sold the car to so i cant remember exactly what it was. My car had 225, 000 miles on it..

it didnt happen every time i started it, but it mostly happened in the mornings when i first started it. At first i thought it was the cooling fan bearings or someithing, then after i sold it the guy told me it was some part of the ABS system..

Thought it might help.

Thanks for the replies guys! That is a huge help actually! The noise is coming from the general direction.

Do you think that taking the ABS fuse out one morning would be a way to try and diagnose the problem? That shouldnt have any real serious effects on the braking (other than no ABS) should it?

Thanks again guys!

I had a similar problem with my 93 gsr. It does sound like the ABS. My was cause by a cheap intake pushing up against the ABS pump. Went back to the stock intake and modified airbox and problem was fixed.

It's the ABS... took the 40A ABS Main Relay out and no more noise and no annoying ABS light!

I wonder if it could be my strut bar pushing on it and causing that noise now that you say that....

Hmmmm....

Thanks for the replies guys! Much appreciated!
