Default Why am I backfiring?

okay, last week we installed a cat back Tanabe exhaust on my del sol, more than a week later it is STILL backfiring when i shift, i've noticed that it only does this sometimes and its always around the same RPM that it does it....

i have driven this car everyday, so i figured by now it should be used to the pipe size differance.. but i could be wrong...

help

do you mean backpressure or stuff actually like comes out of the exhaust......either one i think this might help...mine does it only sometimes but it used to do it when i had a minor leak in my exhaust....like it wasnt tightened all the way when i did it. check out this sight...http://www.mgbexperience.com/service/tips/exhaust.html

Same thing happend to me and it was that i didn't have my exhaust tightened all the way.

Does it take times for cars to get used to exhausts???? I think not.

Is a minor exhaust leak from the exhaust manifold and the cat bad for the car??

check timing/spark plugs/ cap and rotor.
maybe even cam timing if you got adjustable camgears

I have a catback Tanabe Racing Medallion with test pipe and mine does the same thing. I also have a fuel controller and I hear that if you lean your fuel out a bit It'll make you backfire. I have my fuel setting a little leaner than normal for daily driving gas economy. But is backfire usually a bad thing? Take turbocharged cars, or rally cars even, they backfire all the time with an additional flame at the end of the tailpipe.
