My friend has a 99 Neon R/T, and he's got an intake, throttle body, race PCM, header, full exhaust, and solid motor mounts, stripped interior, and a recent tune up. I have a 99 GSR with Injen, and tanabe RM, timing slightly advanced, and 17's(weight factor), ps he is also running 14's with smaller tires. 60 series. Do you think I can take him? He's had more experience at the tracks (twice) than me(none). What do you think.

 

what times does he get at the track?

 

he ran a 15.7 a long time ago with intake and muffler, and he ran a 10.0 in the 1/8 without the header, PCM, and smaller tires. So like low 15's, maybe 14's

 

We'll here's some more data, 15.7 with 10.3 in the 1/8......then the 10.007...approximately 15.4 in the quarter, now.....?

 

gsr runs 15.5-15.7 stock, if youre a good driver you could take him. should be a good race tho.

 

please dont let that thing of all cars beat a teg....id aslo suggest getting som octane booster for the track :D

 

Why would you suggest octane booster? Because of his advanced timing?
I always thought that higher octane fuel did nothing but prevent detonation...

Anyhow... yes, you can beat him, if you can drive.

I have had success with the following...

Launch between 4800-5300rpm...
dump the clutch, don't feather it.
You're going to spin a bit... but you should hook-up around 6500-7000...
once you've hooked up, you're good to go. just shift fast.

You have more mods than I do... I only have an AEM intake, and I consistently run
mid to low 15's... and last tuesday I ran a 15.1 with no ps belt.
You may want to remove your ps belt... I would think you'd be in the high 14's.

On another note, my friend regularly beats me in his SOHC neon.
I think it has something to do with nitrous oxide. He runs 14.4

 

Octane Booster rasied 2-4 wHP throughout the powerband. I saw/read it in some Magazine a couple months back...

 

Neon R/Ts can be pretty quick. My buddy's 4-door has a smattering of bolt-ons, but it's still autocross STS-legal so nothing remotely internal like flywheel, porting or anything. I'm pretty certain he's running I/H/E and maybe a few other things but his car would waste a near-stock GS-R. He has 14.6-second timeslips to prove it, I'm not sure of his trap speeds.

 

you can take him. got any stock rims layin around that you can put on?

 

just a nice side story i was at the track wed. this girl who came up there wiht us and thouhgt she was the mad girl driver better than all of the other girls.......well when going from 3 to 4 dont go to 2 or u break everything damn thing barley coasted off the track, my comment was dodge dont make inday cars that rev to 12,000 then i laughed so did her dad it was funny

octane booster is bs, just buy some real gas. you get what you pay for.

in the 1/8th mile, i really don't know if you'd win... he ran a 10 before he did a bunch of stuff.... i've seen gsr's run 10.2 - 9.7 with i/h/e decent tires and clutch. You're best bet will be a long race, the longer the better. 1/4 you should have him. good luck, let us know how it worked out.

In the run listed in my sig I ran a 9.7 for the 1/8 mile.

 

His car is capable of running 14.9's with his setup and now he has slicks. I have no chance. If I put a type-R cams in would I stand a chance? what does An I/H/E with type-R cams run? 14.7? Oh I have an APR spoiler, will that slow me down considerably?

If you can drive you can defenetly take him.

 

Just so you know, Octane booster will do nothing for you. If you really want to boost octane, even though with your mods it wont make a difference, you can get some Toulene or race gas. Octane booster increases your octane about .5point...maybe. Snake oil.

This doesnt belong here...this is for technical discussions. Just race the dude and see what happens.

And jesus...a cocky neon owner. Youre more than welcome here dude, but please dont get too big of a head. Keep in mind...your magical 14.9 will put you with in upper echelon of stock Altima drivers. Congratulations.

Point being, your tone is a bit condescending thats all, and with what its coming from, you dont have that right just yet.
