Default 4g JDM retofit: My how to

So the story goes:

I had a got a pair of ebay projectors for xmas 2yrs back and they sucked. So I threw in a hid kit and that made it a lil bit better but not as good as a true retro. Basically the ebay projectors are fog projectors at a headlight level, IMO. So here we are today. I now have a pair of bosch bixenon projectors for JDM 1pc headlights. I got the gay chrome ones off ebay for cheap and used the other write up to flat black them. Alone they already look pimp, but heres my rendition to ease some "how to" worries others may have.

Obviously have your supplies together. First step is to open uo the headlights and seperate the housing from the glass/plastic. Then your gonna want to remove the stock reflector.

The product I used to make my mounting bracket was LEXAN POLYCARBONATE, which can be bought at home depot for 4 dollars per 8x10 piece. Its in the window section and have homie cut them into 2 4x5 pieces before you go. Buy 2 slabs cuz youre probably gonna f' the first one up figuring out what the hell your doing. The second try will better but not great, then you'll have the last piece to make 2 correct ones. While there also buy a right angle ruler for correct measuring through out project.

Remove plastic wrapping from lexan

Lay the old mounting hardware and mark the general location where the holes should be drilled.

Use the rihgt angle ruler to line the holes vertically and horizontially.

THIS IS CRUCIAL to have all holes correctly measured and STRAIGHT to have the projector correct in the housing. Otherwise when you go to peep your lights it'll look like this...(my first shot and the steps are nowhere straight, my first R&D session)

The mounting holes should be marked like so. I have skipped some stuff cuz I refined my etup afeter these shots. Basically make all line consume the whole piece vertcally and horizontilly. Horizontal is important as the holes on the right mounting bracket will be in the same place just over a few inches.

Drill the holes, mount the brackets, and cut the plastic that prevents a flush fit.

I have choosen the self locking nuts so they wont come loose after the install is resealed.

Now you need to gestimate the hole to be cut out to fit the projector into it. Just cut something medium small and work the rest out. You'll get the idea on how to make it fit right.

Heres the said projector..

Heres how it looks mounted. Later Ill flat black the hardware so its all stealth mode

You need to have a bezel to cantain the light within. I used a heater exhaust duct for a clothes dryer. 6 dolla purchase

You also may want a shroud for asthetic purposes, flat black again (once chrome) and hides the bezel nicely.

I had to cut some of the headlight trim to accomodate the shroud

Heres some shot of what I'll look like closed up

I finished installing this earlier, and wont post final pics for a few days to keep everybody on the edge of their seats...lol... biggest issue was the size of the projector and the solenoid on the bottom for the high beam, taking up more space in the housing. A 5th gen should be pretty easy cuz of the extra space. Finalized pics later this week....

You do the math, but this is what I spent to do this right, all parts bought off ebay:

Nice write-up, but still too pricey for me just for headlights. Mine work fine. For $600++ I could get cams, and a damn good tune. Or a Shunk 2 IM and throttle body.

for a nice DIY though.
