Strange Noise from under hood
Well i was driving home last night taking the long road home and i decide to step on it a bit since i havne't in a while. anyways first to second is fine, second to third is fine, I clutch- put the gear in 4th, than i let off. As soon as i let my foot off the clutch i heard a loud grinding noise and the car almost stopped- it jerked foward i guess is what i would say. I stopped- no check engine light, no dripping fluid of any kind, turned off the car and it turned on fine- but i started driving off and i heard like little peices of metal jumping around somewhere- dont know if its in the motor or tranny. I get home park the car--im thinkin "gonna have to fix this now". I wake up- car starts fine- i drive and the sound is gone. Im glad whatever happened didn't effect the car too bad- but what happened? Theres no signs from popping the hood that anything broke- snapped or anything. Im thinking maybe if i drop the tranny i'll find a surprise inside? Im never taking this car close to redline again.
the motor and tranny have about 80k on it, it has tranny fluid, i know 4th was in all the way cuz i heard the "click" noise or whatever when a gear is in correctly- than as soon as i let off the clutch- all that noise happened, car jerked foward like i slammed on the brakes almost, i put the clutch in again and well then started driving off only to hear a little noise sounding like loose metal bits. Anyways cars driving fine now...i guess i'll never know.
sounds like you put it in 2nd instead of 4th hence why your car "jerked forward like you slammed on the brakes"...I shifted to 2nd at almost 80 one night, same thing with out the noises though b/c i felt it and didnt let the clutch fully out
