90 Civic heater fan
My car hasnt had heat, defrost, any sort of fan power since I bought it about 1 month ago. Anyway everytime it rained I couldnt see **** because of all the foggy condensation on the window. This is annoying because I live near Vancouver BC and I think everyone knows how common rain is in these parts. So I went to a junk yard and found one out of a 91 hatch and swapped it in about 45 minutes. Only 2 bleeding knuckles, there are some sharp edges under there. To swap your heater fan its about 6 bolts and 2 electrical connectors and the cable that actuates the fresh air, recirulated air mechanism. WOW what a difference. I am now warm when I drive my car and I can SEE when its raining! So if anyone has any questions or the same problem add to this thread. I just want to share the knowledge, as this was driving me nuts before I swapped in the new(er) one.
LOL I just put a blower motor on hold at Autozone for tonight. Im swapping my old one out for a new one. Mine only had settings 3-4 that worked then recently it gave out. So you say that its pretty easy then? Thats nice to hear. Funny I havent seen any post on this til now (or at least that Ive noticed). I was looking around for one out of a junk yard til I called Autozone and they have it in stock lifetime warranty for $42. Cant really beat that.
Yeah mine was the whole heater fan and shroud that connects it to the fan ducts. Just make sure the new fan motor you buy from Autozone comes with the 3 rheostats in the air flow tube. Thats where the problem is. When those rheostats burn out, any one of the 3, that means you can only use certain settings 1-4 or none at all. Mine were all burned out. Yeah it is an easy swap, just a little annoying finding the different bolts. But only one bolt is kind of difficult to get at, its the bolt up towards the dash behind the passenger vent, the one right next to the door facing the passenger. You can get it out, just slightly frustrating, and its a longish bolt. You will also have to undo the vent that runs into the fan box, its to the left of the fan box. If I remember it correct that one was only one bolt at the top and then you just shimmy it all out. I also unbolted the reinforcement plate that goes across underneath the glovebox. You will see it, and understand why you have to remove it. The golvebox needs to be removed too, only 2 bolts, one one each side that face down to the floor. So you will use a Phillips, 10mm socket and I think an 8 if I remember correct. Have fun!
Thanks that really helps! I now know what to expect and not have to go through the frustration of figuring out myself whats involved. Gives me something to think about til 5 o'clock anyway.
