neebie lsd q's
Ok ive been reading a lot about the lsd. And eventually want to get a stock
lsd for my tranny. But if im understanding this right the lsd will even out the
power to both wheels, and also be great on handling and going around tight
corners.
But when I talk to like domestic cars and there lsd they say cornering
sucks with lsd's. And this guy with a bronco gets his car to go on 2 side wheels.
So are they both called lsd, just work differantly? Or how does it work?
And then the whole dsm lsd's are throwing me off too. You can have up
to 3 lsd's in the gsx dsm's. Too much to try to understand.
Can somebody just clarify any of this for me so I can make some sense
out of all of this. And finally start seing the light.

there are different types of lsd, hence have different applications...You cant compare them all because like I said, you use a specific lsd for your specific need. Domestic cars are mostly rear wheel driven cars, gsx are 4 wheel drives? If you're looking to upgrade your current tranny with lsd, I'd suggest to get a quaife lsd. but you may spend more $$..oem lsd can only do so much...
is there differant type of lsd's for the b series trannies.
can anybody clarify the differant types of lsd's? This would
really be helpful.

it depends on your need and the tranny you have i believe all 88-91 b series trannies are clutch lsd units anyway. there are 1way 1.5 way and 2 way clutch lsd meaning is the lsd operating under acceleration and deceleration. these lsd units are not the best for daily drivers.
A helical lsd equiped in itr trannies is better for daily driver. Helical LSD generates torque to both left and right rear wheels by frictional force between the gear teeth and the differential case. lf one wheel loses traction and tries to spin, that axle's side gear rotates slightly faster, so transmitting the lost torque through the helical gears and back to the differential case. The engine torque is also applied to the same part of the case through the final gear so it in turn drives the road wheel through its side gear. The friction created through the gear reduction of the helical gears and the gears sliding on the case prevents slipping of the side gears, so wheelspin is controlled

First off, domestic car owners may not be the best guys to get info from for your Honda. As for DSM's, since the GSX is all wheel drive, there is a differential for the front wheels, rear wheels, and there is a center diff. Like EF_LSVtec mentioned, the OEM LSD is only good for so much power. You should spend a little more now and get a Quaife. You won't be disappointed. If funding is tight, you can take your chances and try an OBX LSD which is a Quaife clone. Some have had success with it and it's about half the price of a Quaife.
you're going to want an obx or a quaife lsd.
with hondas theres mainly two designs, clutch based or helical based (often called helical torsen) torsen for "TORque SENsing"
I would suggest a a helical design lsd. There are two main companies that offer these. Quaife and OBX. The OBX is a cheap knockoff of the Quaife.
OBX requires some "creativity" when installing, check the tech/misc forum for more info.
Some say that the OBX is not worth it, but with the OBX's at ~375 shipped and the Quaifes at ~875 shipped, that $500 dollar decision makes the OBX worth the while.
Now that there's sufficient documentation, I suggest the OBX to the younger "budget oriented" guys and the Quaife to people that have more money than time.
hope that helps

so the lsd's are also differant from the cable trannies to the hydro trannies?
Which one is better, im guessing the hydro but dont know for sure.
I can get my hands on both of them.
And do you guys by anychance know of any links to some good reading material
on lsd's. Or is there not much to them?
Thanks a lot for all the help. (everybody needs to learn some day)

are we talking b-series or d-series?
hydro d-series for the EX trans fits right into a 88-91 cable si trans.

This isn't biased hes got a good point, you'll be lost and hearing stuff that doesn't matter quite often.
I can see it now "tru track and spool in your itr tranny SWEEET!"
No kidding aside the FF car LSD setup isn't the same as the rwd cars or a center diff in an awd car.
OBX OEM and quaife are the most commonly used, what i'd say is best probbly quafie. The worm gear idea really is cool and do some research on it you'll see why myself and others feel its a step above most.
OBX is a copy but not with out its flaws.
OEM are good for lower power but have down sides as well.
