which bike should I use for track?
ok so my superhawk broke again. Just a coolant leak but it happened while riding... I love the damn bike but it needs work. Plan is to get an 03/04 636 this winter. Strip the superhawk down and do maintenance and probably do some stuff like redo the wiring harness, replace hoses, anything else that might fail on me sometime soon. Well the question I have is which should I use for the track. I'm gonna get track plastics for the superhawk from marm. the bike is already built up and only thing it MIGHT need would be a front end but really isn't necessary. I'd ride the 636 in the mean time but somehow using the big v-twin for the track and the high strung 600 for the street seems *** backwards. I mean for now I'm way more comfortable on the twin, it'd be cheaper to fix if I went down, and well like I said it's already setup for it. NOW.... This isn't saying I wouldn't ever use the 600 for the track but what does everyone else think?
well, just because you already seem like you're halfway there, i'd say use the superhawk. It's unique, and it's a twin. More of a powerband so you can focus on form rather than shifting. Since it sounds like the superhawk is making problems for itself i think it'd be less of a headache as a dedicated track bike. It would see less mileage (harder riding), but you'd be replacing stuff on it all the time anyways.
The 636 would be fine on the streets, and if you ever decide you want some twin action between your legs you can always start buying and selling.

both bikes would remain street legal cause I'd wanna use the superhawk every now and then on weekends but daily riding and long trips has put it's fair share of abuse on it. Things should be good once I get a bit done but it'd probably be in pieces for a month or so while slowly fixing/replacing stuff. Plus at least to me riding the 600 on the street would get me comfortable with the bike so I could use that at the track as well. Another big thing I want is fuel injection for my daily riding not to mention that a 636 will get better mileage. Superhawk will get like 30 around town or worse sometimes with like 46 highway... so....
I'm assuming it does... I struggle to keep things stock so I'm probably gonna do at least exhaust/pc3. So yeah
I've been told only thing to watch is the cam chain tensioner will need to be replaced with an ape manual cct.

what do you mean? neither is going to be no title strictly track... Just to me it seemed a little backwards to have the high strung 600 be the main street bike while the big v-twin is the track/occasional weekend warrior. I'd like to take the 600 to the track eventually but after riding my friend's bikes I know it'll be awhile before I'm comfortable enough on one to do that

psh who needs overrev when I have torque all over my powerband
I'll just do what I want with what's comfortable. I know almost positively that my first few will be on the hawk but later on might start using the 600 a little

actually my buddy who got that year zx6rr and races them as well has having a zx10r said that the 636 from that year is definetely better and he regrets getting the rr instead of the 636.

Actually I don't know jack about ur Uberhawk. Talk to Marm. He's got one and he's been tracking for a long time. He'll tell you what you need

Wow, that was really profound. Did you think of that all by yourself or is that just what "everyone" says?

Really? I suppose my comment was said out of ignorance then because I dont have experience with either, just assumed the zx6rr would be better for the track. Rut roh

I know what I need and I just need the plastics he's holding for me. it's perfectly fine for the track and I have way more then he had done to his (other then rearsets). I just want the 600 to get used to i4 sportbikes as well as having a change of pace to my big v-twin. both have been fun for me (the few times I've ridden 600's were a blast) and well the 636 fits perfectly for looks and performance.

i like the way my 636 handles.
and i will agree that you got it all backwards.
i'd have to say keep the superhawk on the streets, and use the 636 as a track machine.
you mentioned the 636 getting better gas mileage...
you'd sacrifice lap time for economical purposes?
i guess everyone sees things differently...
i feel that the track is for high rpm fun time
i could care less about low end torque
it doesnt provide the same "track feel" unless your engine is screaming at you (get some ear plugs if that annoys you)
just my $.02

i wouldn't sacrifice lap times at all with the hawk. I'm really confused as to why people assume the superhawk is so slow on a track. Like I said before. I'm just gonna do it my own way. I'm not gonna take the 600 on the track when I'm not comfortable with it on the street. so first few 100% are going to be on the superhawk. after that who knows. Maybe whichever bike is running I'll use

This statement and your thread title is contradictory. It seems as tho you've already made up your mind before you even made this thread.

no. half way through the thread I said I'm gonna do whatever. Track the superhawk at first cause I'm comfortable on it and then just whatever. Probably take both bikes and ride both or only 1, who knows....
The comments I've gotten in this thread though have been less then helpful. eww I've gotta have a track bike that makes my head want to explode cause it's screaming so loud, apparently my big twin makes 0 noise and doesn't have that "track feel", I'm gonna apparently sacrifice lap times if I track my inferior designed v-twin, v-twins have 0 over-rev and shouldn't be tracked, and if I have a track bike I should track my track bike.... slvrblckrdRC51 is the only person who's given me an intelligent response.

Like I said, ask Marm what he recommends. He's the only one I know that tracked a SuperDuperHawk. And he's ******* good at the track.
