Default Help me pick out my street tires! Searched.

Ive search this topic and ive come up with a lot of good information. Too bad i have no idea what any of it means. Im new to buying tires and selecting tires for my car. Im still young and havnt even wore out my first pair of tires yet

Car makes 268 whp as it sits now. After the motor is pulled and built over the winter I'll be shooting for the 400whp mark. I want a good tire for acceleration, cornering, handling, and tread wear.

Best street tire for:

- 1994 del sol Si
- Lowered 1.7"-1.9" F/R
- 17" Aftermarket rims
- Handling and Acceleration
- Tread wear, I dont want to buy new tires every 10k miles..

Thanks for any input

I have Falken GR-Beta 451 on my Civic, and they seem to handle well in both wet and dry weather. The are mainly drifting tires, but they work great on the street as well. I have 17's on my civic with RS*R Springs and Tokico Blues, and my car sticks to the road very well.

I would suggest the Azenis but they don't have good tread wear about 15k but have amazing dry grip.

I would due to the tread wear would look at the Goodyear Eagle GS-D3. They have excellent dry performance not as good as the Azenis but just as good. They also have excellent wet performance better they any other street tire and the tread wear is great too!

thanks guys im researching on both the Azenis and Goodyears. I hear Azenis are the _best_ street tires.

Also, what size Azenis? 215 -45? or what?

Edit: Ok decided to go with the Azenis sport tires. What size should I run?

Theyre 17" aftermarket rims..

215-45?

My Azenis 615's were pretty bad in the rain after I got a few thousand miles on them, although they were good on dry pavement. A friend of mine has been running a set of the Hankook R-S2's as DD tires on his turbo Civic with good results, especially in the rain. I've heard good things about them from others as well. That will probably be my next DD performance tire.

No one tire is going to do all those things well. Since you have a high-horsepower application, you need to put that power to the ground. I suggest you get the very best street tire for acceleration, cornering, and handling, and not worry about degrading all that horsepower with a long-lasting tire. And that means the Falken Azenis RT-615.

The Falken Azenis RT-615 comes in 205/40-17, which is the best 17" size for your car. That's what I recommend.

what are you trying to do with these tires, it is just for daily? if so id think you should got with FEDERAL tires they SS-595 there 240 Treadware super cheap tires for daily and they have a good amount of grip, lots of drifters use these tires to drift on, they have some good grip on them. price for 17inch tires is like 205/40/17 like 42 bucks +shipping each. done deal. let me know i can help you any time.

Don't waste your money on a shoddy tire like that. Kumho Ecsta SPT for only 14$ more a tire would be a much better choice if you can't afford Azenis.

When you take Kumho's $40 rebate into account, the difference becomes only four bucks a tire.

However, I still think you're better off getting the stickiest tires you can (i.e. Azenis) for a high horsepower application. Otherwise you're wasting all that power.

Good call. Good to see you back, Nsxtasy. Hopefully a semblance of order can be restored to the wheel/tire forum now

So has anyone else noticed that the Azenis gets a really bad tendency to hydroplane on wet pavement when they get a little worn? After daily driving a set of them for 10,000+ miles, that's the main reason that I wouldn't recommend them for a DD street car. I'm thinking he could get great grip from something like a Kumho Ecsta MX or Hankook Ventus R-S2 and be much better off if it rains.

I think pretty much anyone who's tried them has noticed that.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by rmcdaniels &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">After daily driving a set of them for 10,000+ miles, that's the main reason that I wouldn't recommend them for a DD street car.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Well, choosing a tire is always a matter of deciding on trade-offs. If the same tire were the stickiest in the wet as in the dry and lasted the longest and were the cheapest, then we would all be using the same tire. But of course, I'm stating the obvious. The fact is, you can get the Azenis for their great dry traction, and live with the so-so wet performance and the relatively short treadlife, or you can get something less sticky with better wet performance and/or longer treadlife. (For daily driving, I think the short treadlife is more often a more serious downside of the Azenis than the so-so wet performance.) IMHO, a high-horsepower application demands a tire that excels in the dry, and you just need to go slow and be careful in the rain.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by rmcdaniels &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I'm thinking he could get great grip from something like a Kumho Ecsta MX or Hankook Ventus R-S2 and be much better off if it rains.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Neither of those is all THAT much better in the rain, and neither is as sticky as the Azenis in the dry. If you're looking for the best dry performance, period, then get the Azenis. And if rain performance is a big consideration, then I wouldn't get any of these tires, and would instead be looking at the Goodyear F1 GS-D3, which is far superior to any of these in the rain (and is also excellent in the dry). They're a bit pricey, but you get outstanding performance in both wet and dry in the same tire, and not many tires offer that.

However, he didn't even mention that rain is a big issue. Maybe he drives another car on rainy days...
