Does anyone know the handling differences between 929 and 954?
Ok to make it short
Im selling my teg soon and Im going to have about 5 grand give or take.
I LOVE the 954 but I know its a very unforgiving bike.
Does anyone know the handling differences between the bikes/ have a recommendation as to which i could get? I know i could get a 929 for about 5-6 and a 954 for about 6-7.
thanks

i believe the 954 is a touch better when it comes to handling, not to mention a few pounds lighter. but the margin is so small that your average daily rider wouldnt be able to tell.
the 929 and 954 are equally unforgiving.
i personally like the 954 more because its a slightly more refined 929 and the price difference isnt too much.

Nope, I am the same way. I dont know why but I love these bikes, they just look so aggressive.

The motors came from the same platform. They are just bored out 900RR motors. The 954 looks better IMO. If you can afford 6-7 for a 954, then you might as well save up another 1k to get an 03 1000RR.

Well... currently I own a 954 that I have had for 5 months or so. I had a 929 for about year and a half before i sold it. Now I never rode them on the track or anything to that limit. I rode the 929 awhile before I stunted it and then bought the 954 to stunt. A couple things I have noticed in difference is I felt the 954 is a little more responsive and rode better. It is minor things that can vary from bike to bike. Now That looking at stunting I feel that the 954 has a little more power and responsiveness to it. Both bikes are very durable and can handle a beating. They do take a lot to get used to as they both have so much power. All in all they are almost the exact same as was mentioned. The 954 is just a little more "sportier."
Now as to getting a 1000rr over a 929 or 954. I would much rather own a 954, but that is just preference I guess. Just depends on what you are looking to do.

They did not make a 1000rr in 03, I dont think. They made the 954 02-03 and then in 04 I think they stepped it up.

The 929/954 motorcycles are great bikes, especially with really good sticky tires, wild cams, power commander, 520 conversion and a good stabilizer. Simple upgrades will step up the 929/954 into a serious liter contender.

I obviously agree. I love my 929 so much that I am having a hard time talking myself into a 600RR so that I can enter more WERA/CCS classes. Obviously the rider makes more difference than anything else, but it amazes me how well the 929 pulls on current liter bikes after 12,000 mostly track miles. The 929/954 are pretty close (power is nearly identical/weight is close) to what most people think is today's ultimate sportbike, the GSXR750.
Either way, Good Luck.

929 < 954
My brother and I ***** each others bikes out, I own a 954 and he owns a 05 R1, I like the responsiveness from the 954 better, better powerband overall power, weight differences is in favor of the 954 by ten pounds, but the R1 "feels" lighter to me. that may be due to its way lighter rear end compared to the 954 and previous year R1's. speed wise if you want to compare it. from 1-9k 954 > R1 but anywhere after that 'til redline its the R1 hands down. kinda like turbo. This sudden burst of insane speed. and I know alot of people on this forum like turbo...right?

All 1 liter bikes have that in common...... if you don't watch out, you'll lose your @ss....

any new sport 600 has the ability to do as much damage to you as a 1k can, either way whatever you choose, be safe.

Well just like the otherguy said to the daily driver average Joe you really wouldnt tell the difference unless you are highly skilled rider, and **** to the handling characteristics. I have a 29 and my buddy has a 54 and the bikes are so similar that you wouldnt really tell, the big difference is the power but not much as the 54 revs more freely some say. but the only thing Ive noticed is that the 29 has a lil head shake through first and second on a hard launch but nothing a GPR or Scotts stblzr cant fix. also it differs on how you adjust your ride height an comp/reb. But both bikes are well balanced and are some of the best solid stunt track daily driver bikes around.
the entire premise of the question is wrong... the question should read, I have been riding for a little while, do any of you think that someone with my ability will notice a difference in handling between the 929 and the 954?
