The $300 ones are CARB legal and the $50 ebay ones aren't. Don't waste your money on a short ram. if you want better gains, go for the CAI. and if you're afraid of it hydrolocking your engine, get a bypass valve!

Not too many differences in the brands.

Major difference is in the Type of intake

Power = CAI > Box> SRI
Ease of install = SRI>Box>CAI
Most worries of hydrolock = CAI>SRI>Box

^Based solely on my 3-2-1 scale.

CAI = 7
SRI = 6
OEM=5

If you want an SRI, get the V2. But once summer (hot/humid weather) comes around, you'll hate it no matter which SRI you have bolted on.

From dyno testing we have found that short rams typically make more HP & TQ. 9 out of 10 CAI's draw air from low pressure areas resulting in low #'s.

it might make more power the first run on a dyno. but after a few runs, heat soak will play a major factor in power lossess for an sri.

cai =ftw!...sri =FTL!!!... you can suffer from heat soak with the sri since it sits right in your HOT engine bay.

and if your afraid of hydrolocking, well dont be..only why to hydrolock is you drive through a freaking lake..the whole filter must be submerged in water for it to hydrolock. if it just splashes water on it, don't have to worry..

After a few runs, or after sitting in traffic for a minute, etc etc..

Either a box (even stock) or a CAI gives better on-demand spunk than a SRI.

Doesn't the Injen SRI come with a plate that blocks off the header heat?

When moving the SRI will be fine. But when idling and then taking off, yeah, you will draw some hot air.

But for the street, I still think running a CAI is just risking motor damage for only a few more HP. There are PLENTY of people that have ruined their motors due to hydrolocking. Is it worth it?

Sometimes a puddle can be deceptively deep, sometimes there's no way around, and sometimes they'll just catch you by surprise (going through a low section on the freeway at rush hour, for example).

Dyno runs don't similiate road heat soak from sitting still so long.

Untrue. How many times at night have you been driving and hit a puddle larger than you thought? It happens to everyone.

Heck, I've been pulling out of parking lots and ran through low spots when raining and they have been deeper than I thought.

I never hydrolocked because I don't run a CAI.

But no, the entire filter does not necessarily need to be in the water to hydrolock. Submerge half of it at a decent RPM and let me know what happens.
