Default No filter in intake box?

As some of you may know I recently purchased my 2000 hatch. While checking out a few things for future maintenance I noticed there's no filter in my stock intake box.

Bad thing? Or okay thing?

Should I get a filter soon?

i would think that 1. it would obviously allow a lot more debris in your engine than normal and 2. it might net you bad gas mileage. i'd buy a filter ASAP.

Cool, i'll just get a cheap-o one from autozone for the time being. My bro has a CAI laying around he's going to ship to me from GA.

There should be a filter in that box. You can pick one up very cheap at autozone. Or you can put a CAI on it with a filter. Put something over it, even if it's pantyhose over the therottlebody. You need a filter of some kind.

a panty hose over the throttle is not a filter.

Peachy, I never said it was.

I simply stated it's a fine bandaid until you get a real one.

Though if you want to get **** about it I suppose I can nail you back.

Technically it is a filter. How? It lets air in and blocks larger particles like dust. It's primary purpose isn't a filter, but it can serve the purpose of one.

I wasnt' telling him to do it, I was simply saying that anything is better than running an open throttle body like that.

and maybe you didn't read right, but he's not exactly running a open throttle, he still has the factory intake system, but without the filter.

don't get pissy with me because you always post useless crap.

Whatever man, in my opinion there's no difference between running an open throttle body and running an intake setup w/ no filter except throttle response. So whatever.

Well I'm glad that you're glad. Believe it or not (which I don't care) I didn't read any of the replies, just hit "reply" and voiced my opinion. I am not a slave to society and don't feel the need to do what others do or say what others say. That's my opinion, if you like it, fine, if you hate it, fine. He asked for it, I gave it. Pure and simple.

I know, I'm just stating that as our opinions did match, I didn't read any of them before I posted.

you'll lose power...i have seen airboxes with a too highflow of a filter and lose power...the airboxes are designed to create certain amount of vacuum/pressure....if the air filter flows too much where it loses pressure the airflow in the box will become turbulent and thus reduce flow...this is what i have read.

Don't you think the chance of ruining an engine should come before your 1-5 hp difference in the way the intake arm is set up?
