Default Clutch Suggestions?

I have a small oil leak from the rear main, nothing dramatic to wear its making my clutch slip or anything... yet. I'm in school right now so it would be kinda hard to swap out seals in my apt complex, especially when we get bitched at for popping the hood. I plan on replacing it when I go home for break. While I have the tranny off I wan't to put a good clutch in it, since she will be seeing boost in about 2months (200whp) somewhere in that neighborhood. The motor is a d16a6, Si tranny. This is my daily driver, I don't want anything thats gonna be inadequate for what my intentions are. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction. I made the mistake of buying an OE replacement last time, and it just feels week. I also want something with a nice n firm pressure plate. When you push down on the stock clutch in an EF it hardly feels like anything is there! Thanks , -Ashby

yeah i have had the same problem, that and i can burn a clutch up pretty fast the way i drive when i drive like that, but of course anybody can.

I personally just said screw it and bought myself a Stg1 clutch, because im sick of oem replacements, there just to lame, and weak, and soft, and slip sooner overtime.

I'd say jump right to the stage 2 clutch...better to have a little overkill. I tried a stage 1 on my old d16 turbo and it started slipping bad around 10-12psi (210'ish whp). I have a stage 3 6puck in my b16 now...wouldn't recomend stage 3 for daily driving as it def. sucks in traffic or at stoplights.

Yeah i was gonna get a stg 3 but im not turbo plus thats overkill for me anyways. I got a stg1 because im all motor but if your going turbo just get a stg 2.

I have a Exedy stage 1 on my GSR, and I've loved it. It grabs hard enough to chirp third....even 4th one time. I have an oem one on my d-series and it's just not as fun to drive. I'd go with the stage 1 just because I like the way a full disc feels, stockish with more gripping power. For 200whp that's all you'll need.

Cool! Does the pedal feel harder, or like stock? And also, do you think it is worth it to get a lighter flywheel, or should I get the stock one lightened and balanced? I know it will free up a few more ponies, and have better response. I just don't know if I should let a machinist lighten my flywheel! Sounds like stage one is gonna be my ticket.

Off topic... Patrick, are you going to the Charleston Meet? If you are, and you need some stuff from the two EF's I have let me know.

Eh if it still gots some meat left on it then get it shave a couple pounds, but not too much. I personally think it's a waste of money buying any of that expensive **** for a d series considering a lighted flywheel for a d series is like what 200$ i believe maybe more.

Mine isn't you average D series, But I do agree, I can think of some other things that I would rather spend $200 on. O well, we'll have to see once I get it apart.

Now if it was a B SERIES, then YAH...i would buy a light racing flywheel for my b16, but since it's for a d...um no, never, so maybe the douche bags could drop the price, lol.

Sorry I haven't been online for a while. The pedal feel is a little harder, but I like it. I'd say yes to the lightened flywheel also, just not too light. Mine is 12lbs in my GSR and it just feels better, it probably doesn't have a measurable performance advantage, but it feels way better. I think the lightened flywheel is also easier on the clutch disc because it has a lot less momentum, therefore less friction for the clutch to deal with. I've used the Ebay company gripforce clutches and I'm pretty happy with them.

I need the driver's side moldings (upper) for my CRX. I'll let you know if i need anything else.

I'm running a Clutch Specialties stage 3 6 puck sprung disc in my LS turbo and it grips awesome, the pedal is accutaly pretty soft I was supprised but i holds under boost really well, but it is like on or off, no real middle ground..go to http://www.lsdmotorsports.com andask them they will help you pick the proper clutch for your application and price range

I like clutch specialites but most people will say go with bigger name brands...

unless you're making like crazy horsepower, you can keep a stock clutch, probably good for up to 80 horse over stock, and just put it with a lightened flywheel, this will make your car rev up alot quicker, just did it to a friend of mine's he also put an exedy stage 2 on his GS-R and it fit perfectly, with the fidanza flywheel, 11 lbs., the whole thing saved him like 10 lbs of rating mass

summit racing is always good, and they've been around forever, or like JCWhitney sport compact, jegs maybe, but haven't delt with them personally, a company who's name has been around is your best bet, NOT EBAY, you'll more than likely get the wrong thing!!!!!!

why not Ebay? Have you had a bad experience. Gripforce sells Exedy stuff, which is better than OEM quality in most cases. However I have also used a less known ebay brand...F1 I think, and it felt awesome, it was a lightened flywheel, and an exedy oe replacement clutch in a VTEC ZC swap, it chirpped 2nd pretty hard, and my CRX with a strong A6 won't do that.

that's extreme overkill in an all motor D.

Centeforce Dual Friction. I have one, love it. Got it for my 75 shot of nitrous that should be putting me near 200 HP. Feels a little stiffer than stock, not alot. It def grabs hard as a mother. Chirps 2nd sometimes when I don't even intend to. OOPS.

BTW: I have essentially the same setup as you. SOHC ZC with Si tranny.

I just bought a Stg1 F1 clutch kit like that off ebay not too long ago, and when i got it, it was complete with everything like it said on the bid, and it looks great, because i just hate OEM weak *** clutch's.
